| Paul C.'s BMCL with aftermarket frame/case Anyone using one of Paul's BMCL kits with an aftermarket frame/case ? Other threads suggest the KT frame as unsuitable, that's kind of the way I wanted to go but hey what works, works ! Rob |

| Re: Paul C.'s BMCL with aftermarket frame/case Hi Rob, Using the new (and improved) BMCL case raises the unit off ones back by 40mm (was 50mm). This raises the centre of gravity, but not so much that it is a problem... BUT this depends on configuration! A problem may arise in that the back of the BMCL case is flat, much like the yellow box, suggesting a wide wing should be used to allow for inflation. The stock wing can be used with a frame but this requires the user to mount the cylinders further back to allow the wing to expand. This will most definitely effect the centre of gravity/ balance of the unit. A heavy/ big frame will exacerbate the problem further. Adding bigger and/or extra cylinders... you get the idea. Using a drysuit over a wing for inflation changes the way a rig will feel, especially when turning around etc. The juxtaposition of leadweights... again, you get the idea. In short, the BMCL case works best with a rig configured to keep the centre of gravity close to the diver. The current concensus for open water gas diving in UK (or similar) conditions favours a large wing, so the changeover for most people will be modest. There are many configurations, just as there are many personal opinions of what is comfortable underwater. The BMCL unit on a yellow box is like diving a twinset. HTH

| Re: Paul C.'s BMCL with aftermarket frame/case <Hi Rob,> Hiya back Paul, <Using the new (and improved) BMCL case raises the unit off ones back by 40mm (was 50mm). This raises the centre of gravity, but not so much that it is a problem... BUT this depends on configuration!> 10 mm might not seem like much but... different backplates I've used that put my rig (oc or cc) closer or further away from me makes a big difference in uw comfort ( just cause I use a "turtle" doesn't mean I want to feel like one!!) <A problem may arise in that the back of the BMCL case is flat, much like the yellow box, suggesting a wide wing should be used to allow for inflation. The stock wing can be used with a frame but this requires the user to mount the cylinders further back to allow the wing to expand. This will most definitely effect the centre of gravity/ balance of the unit. A heavy/ big frame will exacerbate the problem further. Adding bigger and/or extra cylinders... you get the idea.> I have a few different wings to choose from, so no problem there. What I'm looking for is a case that doesn't put the 3l cylinders any further apart than the stock case, but more importantly does not put them or the scrubber any further back. <Using a drysuit over a wing for inflation changes the way a rig will feel, especially when turning around etc. The juxtaposition of leadweights... again, you get the idea.> Well yea a balanced rig is a balanced rig, minimum buoyancy gas in either drysuit or wing is always best. but juxtaposition?? I thought we were talking diving not some kind of kinky yoga sh*t <In short, the BMCL case works best with a rig configured to keep the centre of gravity close to the diver. The current consensus for open water gas diving in UK (or similar) conditions favours a large wing, so the changeover for most people will be modest.> Keeping the center of gravity as close as possible to me is exactly what I'm after. Why do divers always go for such big wings ?? I try to keep my rig as neutrally balanced as possible ( ie minimum wieght, neutral cylinders, minimum loop volume etc..) and as such don't really find the need for such huge wings as I see being used. <There are many configurations, just as there are many personal opinions of what is comfortable underwater. The BMCL unit on a yellow box is like diving a twinset.> Oh no just like a twinset !! we may have to start talking about a refund here That's one of the reasons I got into a ccr !!All kidding aside I was just interested if anyone had used your bmcl kit with anything other than the stock box and how they were getting along with it.
