| Custom Title Allowed! ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Shocked by APD service Hello all, I did send my lid back to ADP as my battry was not lasting as it should be! Handsets have been taken care as my babies and unit never knocked or dropped.Unit never flodded, 2 years old. Just after a 90m dive no problem! Hi Pierre Thanks for your e-mail. The assessment on your lid has now been completed; the technicians have found the following: -Cells 1 & 3 are ok – cell 2 is a Teledyne cell - -Both handsets have cracks across the neck and water inside. -The computers are talking and both have excellent backlights. -Hoses are ok -All cell wires are black and wet, and not taking solder, therefore making the loom un-serviceable. The work that they are recommending is as follows: Full service - £176.25 New loom - £164.97 for a new molex loom or £188.80 for a new co-axial loom. (If you wish to have the new co-axial loom fitted, 3 new cells will be required) New Cell (for cell 2) - £57.00 Shipping back to Malta - £30.00 So the total cost will be either: £428.22 for a new molex loom, OR £566.06 for a new co-axial loom and new cells.

If any moisture gets into the wiring, it travels up to the junction box eventually. The battery drain is a common issue after moisture gets near the handsets. Even electrolyte drip from a cell will result in moisture travelling up the wires. If you don't catch it early and snip the wiring/resolder, you're stuffed basically. You can dry the handsets if moisture is an issue. Open the whole loop and remove the handset covers then dry out the modules. Worked for me in the past. Really you need to be opening the covers now and again in any case and checking for small cracks or moisture. It's a well known issue. If you really don't want to pay there are other ways to rectify the problem yourself but only if you are confident in replacing the wiring loom - this has already been done, see the Inspo archives. You'd have to be confident in removing the junction box (potted) and replacing. You can buy a portable solder iron in Maplin's ![]() Also, never return the lid with cells other than the BUDs or AP just remove them and charge you for new! Why not bin the electronics and buy a few rEvoDreams?! ![]() |

| Re: Shocked by ADP service I've no vested interest here, but it does sound like a design fault at the moment. Are AP suggesting what they think the cause of the problem is?

| You can also by potting compound from Maplins. It comes in two sachets as a single bag. You break the middle seal and the two cemicals mix, which starts the reaction and sets minuts later. I used this in the past with electronics I wanted to keep stationary and imune from vibration. I'm surprised ADP didn't pot the whole handset from the start. It would mean replacing the whole handset if components developed faults but would stop any moisture from entering further than the connectors. Dave C |

Are AP suggesting what they think the cause of the problem is? I'd invite Trading Standards to answer that question. There are countless users who have been stung by this problem and charged through the nose for a new loom. If the moisture did NOT start at the wires and came through the handsets, it's the inherent design flaw. If the user has moisture in the wires, it's hard to miss as they start turning black. Pierre, I think there should be room for "negotiation" here - this is simply not acceptable on a two year old unit that has been properly maintained. Regards AnneMarie |

| Re: Shocked by ADP service the problems with wiring can also be cured if AP upgraded their wiring by using a marine grade 100% tinned wire.. Check out any boat where the wiring was done correctly, even after repeated exposures to salt water the wiring is usually fine.. The last time I rewired my boat (its 100% open to the elements) was 5 years ago, the wires are continually exposed to the enviroment and there is no corrosion migrating up the cable...
