I have 2002 classic Inspiration. Now my another handset's backlight is broken. Could you say how much cost service of Inspiration head/ backlights?

Backlights cant be fixed, it is replacement handsets. IMHO not worth it, use a torch. It's cheaper.

Is that with 3 new cell's as well ? (If so not bad?)

I asked service for the same reason. The answer was that the handset need to be changed (actually both will be changed) for 376£. That also includes full service for the lid, new battry box etc. Not cheap but you get basically new electronics

They can't repair a broken backlight. A replacement controller is around £ 170. Depending on the work that AP will do on your head you have to spend much more money. They will automatically replace the O2 sensors if they are out of spec or if you are not using the original R22D-Bud sensors. There is a "small" and "full" lid service (description and pricing can be found here on the forum). When they remove the controllers they have to cut the cable. If your internal cable is too short they will replace the complete loom. Doing this requires a full lid service. The new loom will have the coaxial connectors for the O2 Cells. This also means, even your old cells are OK, you will get new ones. Don't be surprised if you get a much higher bill than just £170 for the replacement of your controller.

True, AP won't repair backlights.
At the risk of splitting hairs, though, it can be done:

• classic-handset-backlight-gone
• need-replace-lcd-sartek (the display-pictures in this thread look niiiice)

Just curious - why are they failing so soon? As a classic owner & electronics engineer, I find it a bit worrying...

I have a 2003 and one of those have gone

I just use it as the slave.

Hmm.

If you use the master as your primary handset, that is, you look at the master to check your controllers are working then you might miss the slave falling down.
Try this. Boot up your controllers and then shut off JUST the slave. What warnings do you get?
None.
If you use the broken backlit one as the master, but use the slave for quick glances then you are more likely to avoid the situation where the master fails, but your slave is already off and you didnt realise.

now I am not saying that you wouldnt check both handsets but lets be honest, how many of us have had a quick glance at only one?

Might be a useful tip, might not be.
