Interesting New Vision Problem

Hi All

We recently had a course in Cape Town, SA, run by Don Shirley (who was Dave Shaw's buddy in the dive to 280m when he lost his life).

Prior to the course 5 new Inspirations with New Vision electronics were ordered. These have all done about 20 dives now and all except one have the same problem.

The LCD flashes intermittently on and off with a black screen, even when the unit is turned off. This happens even when new batteries have been put in. After this has happened, the unit cannot be turned on. The batteries have to be removed and replaced and the unit turned on before the flashing starts in order for it to be used. This is obviously problematic if trying to open the unit on a small boat in big seas (which we are quite used to), not to mention irritating when one has paid £4700 plus shipping & tax for a new toy!!!

There are another 2 new Inspirations of the same spec on order (due to be shipped this week) which have been put on hold until AP can guarantee us that they will not have the same fault. The other 4 units are having the heads sent back to AP for examination, since they have no idea what the problem is.

Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Jean.

Jean

Sorry to learn of your strange new problem. Bizarre.

I've had my Vision just over a year and have put about 85 hours on it without any problems.

I haven't read of any similar on RBW so please keep us in the "loop" when AP advise you of what's going on with your unit.

Re: Interesting New Vision Problem

Hi Jean

Snap - I have had exactly the same problem, but with the added bonus of the buzzer going off as well (albeit with a low sounding noise, rather than the normal volume). Took the head to the Dive Show and left with AP, I would add that the problem with the buzzer coming on whilst the unit is turned off has been a recurrent one for me and this will be the FOURTH time it has gone back to AP. I have had the unit for just over one year and quite frankly have had nothing but problems. My husband received his unit at the same time and it is completely trouble free! I would add that AP have been very quick with looking at the unit - but to date have not been able to fix it!!!

I only find out I have a problem when I go to prep the unit prior to a diving trip - I have had to cancel quite a few over this year due to this.

Waiting to hear the result from AP, Nicky (from AP) has promised the head will have a complete strip down. I thought it was just mine, but obviously other vision users are encountering the same problem. Fingers crossed for a resolution.

um, WTF, how bout a complete replacement of the head... If this kind of thing is sooo rare then AP should eat the head on these "rare" occasions and give you a brand new one. One cancelled trip in a year is one thing, two or three would put me over the edge! I hate hearing stories like this, they just keep popping up...not to mention my wife's evo has had it's issues, causing a cancelled trip and some other anomalies that seemed to go away after some fiddling.

Lately we have not had many issues, keeping our fingers crossed.

Re: Interesting New Vision Problem

I've not heard of that problem myself. I got my vision electronics with my unit brand new back in May of this year and the electronics have been working fine, with the exception of bug in the timer software which has been fixed with the last firmware upgrade.

Cool Re: Interesting New Vision Problem

Hi Jean;
I`m diving my new Evo since March;
I´ve had exactly the same problems for the last 4 weeks; I sent the Evo this week via my local dealer to AP;
i was a little bit frustrated cause I had to cancel a few dives - and I´m not talking about hundreds of kilometers to the divesites.

anyway we will see how good the service from AP is

Re: Interesting New Vision Problem

got my vision inspo with all the bells and whistles on it trimix temp stic ketc brand new in feb

absolutely delighted until i switched it on then the screen came up with evolution instead of inspiration sat for hours trying to get it to work then realised the software had not been installed no name no post code no reg no etc and also no dive software. software not a problem just spoke to nicky she sent me the downloads all fine but had to send the head back to get the screen to say inspiration upto now i have not had a problem with the software not one that i have noticed, recently had to send the flow stop back because it was leaking rec it back yesterday so not tried yet.

but i must say the service i have had from nicky and the rest at ap has always been fine but the unit should not have got past their QC and shipped to me the way it did

I guess the software will get the model from the head/electronics and for some reason you ended up with Evo head/electronics instead of Inspo.

Re: Interesting New Vision Problem

Well well well, the 5th unit that was supposedly trouble free has now also suffered the same fate, and has been shipped back to APD. The "temp stick software is also doing slightly strange stuff" to quote the owner. That makes it 5/5.

One of the owners was in the UK last week and popped in to APD with his head (as opposed to the others which have been shipped). They swopped it out with a new one since he was leaving the next day and said they needed to keep the problem one for study.

It seems the units are fine to start with and the problems only surface after about 25 dives. Very strange and still no answer as to the cause. Not very impressive that 7 units have been ordered and not one owner currently has a unit to dive with!!!

Had had a few elec faults on my vision but nothing off what you mention, my unit is coming upto 1yr old.
