One modification only! what would it be?

Currently my unit is in a somewhat pristine and as AP intended it state.

I've been thinking about various modifications to "improve" it most notably a BOV or a 4th cell (I already the option activated on my VR£).

If you could only choose one (note one, mdemon, and a whole second loop doesn't count!) modification up to say £500 max (ie not silly silly money), what would it be and why?

The single most important modification you can make is a BOV, IMHO.

(The next is 4th cell monitoring - in your case a Beanie, although you may need some extra cabling.)

That's you covered for CO2 (and handset failure).

If I could only make one, it would be to drop the APD harness in favour of a standard backplate.

I agree, BOV is number one for all us ECCR owners. But I'm still not sure what the appeal is of a 4th cell with an ECCR? And handset failure? Doesn't the Inspo have 2? How many times has somebody had both handsets die? And CO2, did I miss something? -Andy

The Vision units have a single handset.

CO2? Did you go and buy the cheap BOV without secondary reserve scrubber and CO monitoring? Shame on you!

If you did buy the cheap, early models without these features then don't fret - the point made still applies to you too; at the first sign/symptom (or preferably before) of CO2 you can use the BOV and stop the problem. No need to fumble for regs etc. Also doubles as an ADV and allows addition of different gas mixes into the loop. Great piece of kit. Even the earlier models...

4th cell:

If a cell drops out, you have a 4th to verify the remaining two are behaving as they should as you make your way home
If you replace your Inspo cells, 4th cell will allow you to see if you have a duff batch if you check!
daft as it may seem, there are some occasions where if you turn your handsets off and on to clear a problem, you end up with nothing! (Damn Microsoft - we're far to quick to reboot now... ). 4th cell is now your only option
You can get the VR£ to track your deco according to the real PO2, not the setpoint. Never trusted this enough to use it but some people like it.

The Beanie will allow addition of my favourite new kit, the rEvoDream. This is 4th and 5th cell AND HUD! So you could get one of those + Beanie for Mary's £500GBP. This would give you a great independant HUD AND the Inspo handsets and alarm. You'd really have to be trying to have a gas problem with this set up - belt and braces at a great price! (OK, sounding like an advert now...)
