Grace Soda Lime?

Anyone using Grace Soda Sorb in their YBOD or Evo? If so, are there any difference worth noting when comparing it to sofnolime? I know, I know don't cheap out on lime but if it's $60 cheaper then sofnolime with no significance then why spend the money.

Yup.... I used it for a year or so without problem before switching to extended air.

I'm leaving for Halifax on Sunday for 6 months and I'm going to get what I need shipped there. When I get home though I'll be ordering some more.

Can anyone recommend a good supplier?

Re: Grace Soda Lime?

the cost of safnolime just increased at the store i got our units through by
25%. It's now a comparison of $220 for 44lbs vs $125 for a 37lbs keg of sodasorb (or as low as $92 if baught in bulk/palate, including shipping). We've been using sodasorb HP mostly with our evos. It seems that safnolime was a little bit less dusty, more uniform in granule size and maybe a little bit more efficient, at least in terms of how the temp stick read but for the most part just doesn't seem sufficiently better to warrent such a premium IMHO.

Re: Grace Soda Lime?

I've been using 8-12 Sodasorb for about 2 years in my Inspo, and I have found it to work well. I've done a bunch of dives between 200' and 350', and never had any issues of CO2 breakthrough, high WOB, etc. I must admit that I'm not usually breathing very hard.

My feeling is that if you don't push the 3 hour scrubber rating, you aren't likely to have problems with any of the brands. Obvioulsy, as with anything we do, we do it using our own judgement and risk.

I have found both Grace and Steam Machines to be very easy to work with.

Aloha,
Charlie

Re: Grace Soda Lime?

I bought a couple of tubs of Sodalime a few months back. I've been using it for a while and seems to be ok, but I did notice that the tubs I bought were fairly dusty compared to the sofnolime I was using before. Other than that, I've been getting similar scubber times from it.
