| Head in urgent need of service? Hi, I am now concerned with state of my Classic Inspo head as several times during calibration master handset switched off and slave had become master. It happened without any sound, inconsistently with APD manual according to which I expected beep after each switch. Once I was doing calibration with only one handset on - it went off soundlessly. There was no battery warning. At the beginning I was connecting this with battery level but I changed to brand new Kodak CRP2 batteries and situation repeated. When after several retrials calibration was done succesfully it never repeated afterwards - before or during dive. Totally it happened three times - always during calibration. From last switch off I made 5 dives and it didn't repeate, so maybe problem was temporary? Did it happened to any one of you? Anyhow I am planning to send head for overhaul to AP but rather late at winter as it not easy to get separated from my Inspo, however I don't feel myself comfortable whith situation I don't understand, especially during dive. What could cause such strange behaviour of my Inspo head? Could it be lying in proper choice of batteries? Or maybe my solenoid require more power than usually - could it be sign that its life is ending? Here in Poland can't find Fujitsu batteries which a mostly recommended. Easiest to buy is Kodak and Maxell and probably can get Sanyo also. Thanks in advance. Mirek |

Using a rubber eraser sometimes help with some corrosion build up in the old Insp. Hope that helps. |

| Re: Head in urgent need of service? I am finding that the Kodak batteries last a long time but are dieing without warning. i.e. the handset just won't switch on or a long series of beeps from the buzzer when I try to iniate the handset. |

| Re: Head in urgent need of service? While I would not totally rule out the possible need for a servicing I would first try new batteries. A few months back I had a similar problem with Radio Shack batteries that I actually thought would be better then the normal Duracells I have used for ages. The switch caused all kinds of havoc. My slave would beep constantly during calibration and stop when the master sent the information. Unit worked fine in the water for hours. Next day the master fired up fine and the slave handset kept flashing need calibration. Bottom line it was all caused by batteries. Per Martin some of what happened is by design to protect certain stored data on the handsets and that in some cases a battery warning would not occur. Also in the numerous conversations I had with Mike Fowler and Martin during this period it came to light that a number of people were having similar problems with other makes of batteries, especially lithium. If I were you I would certainly try to obtain a set of the factory recommended batteries before I spent the money for a full service. No matter what they will not go to waste. Mark |
