Remember that you'll need to put an Over Pressure valve on your diluent first stage if you do this This is a phot of me with another unit and this has a dive-rite inflator fitted (so it is possible).

| Re: Replacing Autoair Pierre, I can see why you're replacing the Auto Air, but I can't think of a worse replacement! There's been loads of problems with Halcyon inflators, they're the one thing I'd replace if I got one of their wings. If you really want one any H dealer should be able to get you one, but they'll be expensive, and not as good as most other tried and tested inflators out there. Just get an inflator off an OMS, Dive Rite, Zeagle, you name it. Or, if you got really clever, you could replace it with an AP200, as it uses the same hose as the inflator buttons, so you have one less spare you need to carry. And (though I can't think of many reasons why you would) you can connect the wing inflator to your counterlungs easily. AP will also sell you the nipple for your drysuit and a hose, so everything's interchangeable. Magic. Digs (not an Inspo diver, but seen what makes sense!) |

| RBW Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Replacing Autoair I just fitted a LPI that I got from my local dive shop. I cut down the length of the hose as I felt it was too long, and used 2-zip ties to hold the new inflator in place. You can see it here: ![]() During the dive, the inflator is tucked into a loop of surgical tubing that is tied through one end of the otherwise unused chest strap on my original harness, I think you can just make it out here, just above the AP/Inspo logo on the counterlung: ![]() |

I am after the Halcyon one due to being made from SS! Actually looking at the photo I realised that this one was a Dive-rite one. I did use a borrowed halcyon SS one in the Phillipines - seemed allright for me but it was brand new and only did 15 dives with it. As I said my own unit had my scubapro one which seemed fine

I replaced my YBOD's with H inflators and had trouble in a matter of days. It's not nice to have an inflator leaking air into the wing. There are articles on direxplorers about how to work on them and fill them with silicone. If you own an H inflator, get used to working on it.For those who removed the autoair, with what you did replace it ? Did you had to modify something or was it a straight swap ? I can see why you're replacing the Auto Air, but I can't think of a worse replacement! ..... Or, if you got really clever, you could replace it with an AP200, In my opinion it is simply too big a lump of plastic and has far too sensitive an inflator button - I know of one at least rapid ascent / DCS caused by the lump getting inadvertantly trapped between gear - something I've not seen with the OMS style one which requires a far harder press. But its only my opinion... | I've had to deal with a buddy going buoyant at 35m because of a leaking SS Halcyon inflator. Just don't do it - is SS really that important to you in an inflator? I ended up OOG having donated all my gas to him. (DrMike take note - I used my Buddy crack bottle for redundant buoyancy! )Can I just ask how many people have actually had problems with their autoair? Other than the odd dribble of bubbles every now and then? It is a hideous breathe, but is the replacement "by default" more of a fashion statement than anything else? After all, if it free flows you just undo the GCS...

It leaked seriously and completely screwed up my bouyancy, luckily only during a test dive. The SS was completely corroded. I cleaned it and filled it with silicone and put it on the shelf. )![]() |
