Question Evolution scubber question

Hello,
my question is: How long can i dive with the evolution and one scubber filling? APD says 2h. Is more divetime possible or not?
And what advantages and disadvantages does the evolution have?
thank you!

with best regards Anton610

Re: Evolution scubber question

You don't say what you want to compare an Evolution to. Suggest loooking in the Library for descriptions of the various rebreathers. I suspect the common answers for advantages would be the Vision electronics (built in computer), the temp stick system for monitoring the scrubber, and the large number of units made by AP compared to others. Disadvantages might be listed as the construction materials, preferences for loop design features and placements, individual parts design attributes, etc. depending on who is doing the evalution. I also suspect most folks on this Forum agree that the "perfect" rebreather hasn't been made, yet.
Scrubber duration depends on temp and workload. Folks do use the Evo scrubber for 4 hours in warm water with light workloads, depending on the temp stick to tell them where the reaction is working in the stack. Obviously, one needs to be vigilant re possible breakthrough because the temp stick is not a direct measure of what one is breathing.

Re: Evolution scubber question

As stated above, it really depends on temp, workload and your own physiology. I am a fairly petite person and my Instructor thought I would easily get 4 hours out of it, even UK diving, but I don't think I will ever put that to the test. Did do 4 hours on it in warm water and the temp stick was still showing that the whole upper three quarters was active - so I would happily do three in UK. The Evo suits me because of it's size, and the kind of diving I do. I found the Inspiration just swamped me.

Re: Evolution scubber question

we routinely get 4-5 hours on the scrubber in cold water with moderate current in depths between 90-130...we have only 30+ hours on our units so far. the rating on a scrubber is relative to depth, temp and work load, so it's my understanding that ratings tend to focus on deeper more arduous conditions. the temp stick seems very reliable but you need to learn how it works. It's a bit like a battery reading it goes up and down depending on load. The three factors i know of that effect load in the case of the scrubber are depth, water temperature and respiration rate/metabolic rate. As great as the temp stick is, you could theoretically out breathe the scrubber, causing breakthrough even staying within the recommended limits...it can't be said enough, it's not a co2 monitor, as i've seen it referred to even in the promotional materials . there is always a fear that any technology can create over confidence and lead to deadly mistakes. Hyperventilating is not a good thing to do on any scrubber.
