sofnolime

Trying to find out what size of sofnolime to use 4/8 or 8/12 (regarding price and scrubber- life) what size of sodnolime is mostly used,
and what is according to you folks the recommended scrubber duration for 4/8 and 8/12

Re: sofnolime

I like Sofnolime 8-12. Very little dust. Works great and is worth the little extra cost.
Have Fun.

Re: sofnolime

grade 797

I think it is worth spending tehextra money for sorb with a smaller grain size,
it might be accademically but i think that this will reduce the risk of chaneling.

Does anyone have further information in regards to packing the scrubber with a bigger grain sizes and CO2 problems ?

Cheers
Chris

and for the smaller grain how many hours diving would you consider "safe" before renewal?

Re: sofnolime

Up till this very moment I use the bigger grain size; 4/8 and did up to 4 hours of intensive diving without any problemsof CO2 buildup

There are so many variables that effect this eg

Temp of Water
Depth of Dive
Work Rate
Number of dives against total run time.
Efficiency of Scrubber Architecture etc

Unless you have some way of monitoring CO2 or have a tempstik then my reccomendation would be to stick the manufacturers limit which is 3 hours with smaller particle size.

Re: sofnolime

Hi,

This is interesting - and I'm sure talked out before (any one have any definitive refs to hand?) I'm using Spherasorb - really dust free and nice evenly sized round granules which pack really consistently. (Use of between 2 and 4 hours in a classic kiss, depending on depth, work rate etc. like Stewart noted).

This Spherasorb choice was partially because it's so clean, comes in handy size 5 litre tubs, and also - it was easier to get hold of than Sofnolime a while ago here in Ireland as there wasn't the associated shipping costs out of the UK. Anyone got recent prices for Sofnolime in Ireland? Unless prices are noticeably different I'd actually be reluctant to go back to any size Sofnolime as it is so clean and handy.

Does anyone have any really strong feelings against Spherasorb and in favour of Sofnolime?

Be interested to hear views,

Cheers,

Jonathan.

I agree, there are so many factors influencing the sorb that this can become a tricky issue. I routinely use the smaller grade for around 4 hours, but that is me. My advice would be to stick to the manuf. recom. of 3 hours. I def do so when diving in adverse conditions (cold, current , bad viz etc.) - Which unfortunately is very often teh case here down under

cheers
christian
