| My head problems an update :( I got a call from AP today and they will have my head ready for late Monday. As it is the weather is crap so I doubt if We will be diving Sunday anyway so looks like Ill dive the HH Monday or just miss one dive. However I was gob smacked at the discussion of the faults found. I just cant get my head around it. 1: Left hand hand set cracked on the neck. Clearly visible to the eye, no water inside the hand set. Interesting as I went over both hand sets with a 10X eye glass and couldn't find ANY cracks. I also dived the unit to max 70m at least three times recently without getting water in side the hand set. I conclude the only possible explanation is the had set was damaged in transit to AP and this is an unrelated issue. With all due respect I was a precision tool maker for 12 years and I think I know what a crack looks like. 2: There is a hole in the buzzer cable that apparently I tried to repair with gaffa tape? The gaffer tape was put on the buzzer cable about a year ago to stop it rubbing on the side of the Insp case as it was marking the cable. I have done about 90 dives on it since then with a dozen or more to 70m+ and a couple over 100m. I haven't noticed any damage on the tape? but apparently a hole formed underneath it. I have no explanation for this on a unit only 18months old 3: The HUD uses an in line loom that is connected to the wires of the YBOD by twisting the wires together and then covering them with screw clamp non crimping electrical connectors. I was told these were the cause of my erratic cell readings? I have never had any erratic cell readings? I have had 1 cell fail in 18months and that was two weeks ago and the cell was over a year old. Fresh cell no problem next dive. Cell 3 always ran high on calibration but thats about the only issue I can think off. Once calibrated it was stable. The voltage on the cable is in millivolts coming from the cell so why would this connection be an issue? I phoned Uri he said this was bollocks I phoned Andy P who is an electrical engineer and he said this was bollocks I am confused. Finally they said they were going to do a service and fit three new cells. I asked them not to as i had just taken delivery of three new cells and cell two was new replaced last week. They said they had to to check the unit??? surely they have some cells knocking about to do this??? Apparently not so i have insisted they check the unit with my old cells which I checked last week and they were fine at ambient, 6m showing 1.6 8m showing 1.8 (on o2) and at 70m confirming dill. Now they are going to re-pot the electrics so i cant have the unit back by Saturday. When they had finished explaining all these problems I pointed out that I sent the unit down with a problem in my RIGHT hand master hand set and the problem was it kept switching its self off Sooooo they have found a problem with the left hand unit and the buzzer cable but nothing with the right hand unit which was the one giving me problems? I am not sure whether to laugh, cry or get angry. I just hope that what ever it is they do fixes the original problem. Apparently its costing about £250 and at least they are making a big effort to stop me missing too much diving. Unfortunately I am a bit confused by the outcome but I hope for the best. | Re: My head problems an update :( Ooooops, Sir, I'm terribly sorry sir, this isn't your leccies at all. Actually, .... We're still trying to find where we put yours, if in fact we even have them, are you really sure you sent them off to us? Quality control and customer service sure seem to be playing "second fiddle" to getting new units out the door at AP lately. Darlene |

| Re: My head problems an update :( OMG! That's unbelievable! I'd be interested to see what they say about the R. handset after all that. And yet... I phoned for a service kit and some bits yesterday. They were waiting for me when I got home this evening! Maybe you had a trainee working on your kit? ![]()

| Re: My head problems an update :( Reminds me of a quote from what I seem to remember was a monty python episode where this bloke goes into a shop to return something faulty and the shop assistant looks at him, shakes his head making that noise you get when sucking air through your teeth and says in his most accusatory tone 'Ere, You've been using it haven't you!?' |

Surely not choc block? Shame on you Uri! ![]() PS All, this is just random abuse, Uri's a mate. I expect I'll be the subject of concentrated abuse when he reads this.. EDIT: Yup, I was.. | Re: My head problems an update :( Guys, you need to remember that when we fix things at home we scrape around trying to workout how to fix it with the minimum cost, and make absolutely certain we have a fault before we replace something When you are in the factory, you have piles of nice new parts, and you know that you get sued for NOT fixing things which subsequently fail and cause an accident, what are you going to do ? If something looks suspect, you replace it. In fact to me that is the value of getting something fixed by the factory, they don't mess around. Ever had you car serviced ? Do they always want to replace the brake pads ? Ever wondered why ? And if I was AP and saw a third party HUD wired into the cells, that is the first thing I would remove if the unit was not working correctly. Be realistic. Why would they even consider buying into whether the HUD is working or not. |
