Question Removing hose fittings

I'm trying to open the hose fittings on either end of my inhale hose to replace it. I have a hose tool from Narked at 90 to hold the inner fitting, but when I turn the rear collar, it rotates around the hose along with the two half collars underneath it and doesn't unscrew. I can't see any way to hold the two half collars in place to stop them rotating.

Any ideas?

There are 2 methods that I am aware of:
  1. string technique - wrap a string around the thread of the 2 halves in opposite turning direction to keep it from rotating when turning the outer collar.
  2. use a circlip tool - it is a tool that has 2 pointy end bent 90-deg to place/remove circlips. Insert the 2 pointy ends in between the space of the 2 halves to keep them from rotating. A long needle nose plier might work if you don't have circlip tool handy

Its a common problem.. What I found works most of the time is to submerge the connectors in hot water for a few minutes, then in quick snapping motions to try and unscrew the locking sleeve.. Constant pressure turning doesnt seem to work..
Once you get it unscrewed a few mm then you can easily use needle nose pliers between the gaps to hold it in place if its still rotating..

You may have to revert to the hot water several times..

Re: Removing hose fittings

Snapping action as Joe says, a deft flick of the wrist.
Also if you have any of the inner part showing wrap elastic (rubber) bands around it, this is also handy for putting them back together.

Re: Removing hose fittings

Thanks to all for the tips. I finally got it done tonight.

The hot water worked perfectly on one end but no joy on the other.

I couldn't try any of the tips about the string or cable ties around the inner collars as I couldn't expose the inner collars at all.

I was getting really p***ed off until I was sent a handy tip which worked perfectly. Wrap some thin string very tightly in between the outer collar and the endpiece (collar that screws onto the mouthpiece/t-piece).

Although it won't wrap around the inner collars, eventually (after about two meters of the stuff!!) it will fill the gap and jam the inner collars against the end piece. Then the outer collar will release from the inner pieces.

Again many thanks to all who took the trouble to reply.

Mick
