![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Removing hose fittings I'm trying to open the hose fittings on either end of my inhale hose to replace it. I have a hose tool from Narked at 90 to hold the inner fitting, but when I turn the rear collar, it rotates around the hose along with the two half collars underneath it and doesn't unscrew. I can't see any way to hold the two half collars in place to stop them rotating. ![]() Any ideas? Best way I found was to use the hot water trick for about 5 min., THEN place it in the freezer for about an hour. Take it out and put a hair dryer to the locking nut for a minute or two (low heat only). The water stays frozen on the inside of the 1/2 nuts/hose and holds it so the locking collar can twist off.

| Rebreather World Writer ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Removing hose fittings I've just finished some winter maintenance and found this thread very useful. However, I have a few personal observations to add. I was lucky in that all my hose fittings came off relatively easily, my problem has always been tightening them up when put back together. In the past I have used a cable tie to hold the two split rings together until the nut is almost there, remove the cable tie and hope the hose doesn't start turning. After reading some of the comments above, and using a little imagination, I created my "string and chair" method. Take a piece of thinish string and put a small loop in one end. Tie the other end to a chair arm, or some other fixed point. ( I was doing this at the dining table sitting in a chair) Through foot the string so that you have a noose, and then loop this over the spilt rings on the smooth bit above the threads. You can now tighten the loop by pulling the hose away from the chair, which holds the split rings nice and tight whilst you tighten the nut. When you lose sight of the threads you can remove the string and (normally) the nut will tighten the last few turns without turning the hose. I'm not sure if it will help take them apart next time, but I put a little silicon grease on the threads before rebuilding. Overall this was much more efficient than my original method and didn't involve having to pry tight cable ties off. I have packed my bit of string in my tool box!

![]() ![]() | Re: Removing hose fittings Since it's wintertime and the water is too cold for me I today spent some time to replace the breathinghose O-rings. I am the second owner of my yellow widow maker and I don't think the O-rings has ever been replaced since the manufacturing date (Sept. 2001). I knew the fittings could be tricky to loosen but it's was worse than that, it was impossible! I tested the hot-water-trick in this thread and that helped me with one fitting only, the others refused to give up. After one blister on my left hand I was quiet pissed off and realized that I needed a proper tool for the task. After searching high and low I finally found a proper tool, a broomstick! ![]() The broomstick fitted nicely in the hole and gave me a chance to get a good grip of the hose so I could loosen the ring. The first fitting was really easy and the others took less than 30 seconds each. Since a picture says more than 1000 words I enclose one as well. // Blomman |

Putting it back together was not that easy. I had to machine a hosetool in a local machine shop. It also helps if you put silicone grease on the threads. -Pasi Last edited by plazma : 16th March 2007 at 19:21. |

The diameter of my broomstick was 21.7mm but could maybe be a little bigger. I now think of chopping off a piece and put it in my "divers toolbox" ![]() // Blomman |

![]() | Re: Removing hose fittings Hi guys, Ok i am not sure what i am doing wrong here. I have a Evo and i have inserted a broom handle into the end of the hose, it holds the inside nicely. I then can turn the outter collor, but it just keeps turning and turning without coming lose. I have checked to make sure the broom stick is holding the inside from rotating. Cheers John |
