| Problems with APD Communicator Software Well I followed the instructions in the manual, but no joy... Using the supplied USB-serial adaptor, the device manager reports that it's on COM4. Ok... The APD Communicator software is only detecting COM1, in the settings page the buttons for COM2 - COM16 are "greyed out" (not selectable) Have e-mail APD for advice... Anyone experience this problem? | Re: Problems with APD Communicator Software yes, usually on pc's that dont have enough power to the usb port. I read that Dell are notorious for that. I have a desktop and two laptops and my communicator wont play on the desktop and one of the laptops but works just fine on the other!! Dave |

| Re: Problems with APD Communicator Software I have had the same problem with the USB adapter on my laptop. Tried everything including my desk PC and eventually gave up. Plugged in the serial cable and straight away no problem - works every time. Not a good answer when you don't have a serial interface though .

| Re: Problems with APD Communicator Software I had the same problem with running my vision through a Dell laptop, I could get the computer to sync the clock etc but every time i tried to download or dives or upload updates it would fail. Sometimes at 1% other times all the way upto 89% then fail. Tryed it on my Dads desktop as i only own the laptop and never had a problem, works everytime so i think the USB power is the only viable reason. PITA that for any downloads or updates i have to take the head round to my mum & dads to make it work but its cheaper than buying a new computer. the log viewer is a nice feature but i am really not that botherd, so i just tend to use it for updates, and now AP have sorted the timer issues hopefully i wont have to do any downloading for a while ATB Gareth |

I would get part way or nearly all the way and then it would fail."Downloading Data Failed"

| Re: Problems with APD Communicator Software When I got my Evo, one of the first things was soft installation and attempt to make it working. With supplied Gembird USB-DB9 adaptor cable all three PCs were doing very strange things (Acer tablet, desk top Compaq and custom one), after attempt to replace USB driver with supplied one all three went to reboot. Thought both desk top were working good with direct connection to com port (DB-9). Took another manufacture adaptor and, BINGO... all came back to normal operation (had to reinstall original usb driver on all three XP PCs). No problem with upload/download since that. Contacted SDS in regards to replace that cable but answer was... , unfortunately 'silent'. All what I heard so far from people having problem with Vision soft installation and running the program mainly related to usb port. Just try first DB-9 connection to computer com port (if you have one and/or have both desk top and laptop PCs) if it works, than kick out that gembird on garbage and get another adaptor. In Canada they are available at 35-45.00 CAD just about anywhere. Cheers, Nick |
