  • Double click on "My Computer"
  • Look for "APDCommunicator" where type is application, it will by default be in "C:\Program Files\APD\APD Communicator" (may also called APDCommunicator.exe)
  • Select "APDCommunicator", then right click & on the menu click on properties (should be at the bottom of the list)
  • A window titled "APDCommunicator Properties" should appear
  • Click on the compatibility tab near the top of the window
  • Make sure the "Compatibility mode" option "Run this program for compatibility mode for:" is checked (i.e. has a tick in the small box on the left of the text)
  • From the drop down list below, select "Windows 98/Windows Me"
  • see attached image
Hope this helps...

Jon

I am almost lost for words as to how such a dull subject is still sucking us in several months later!! Only teasing, I can see that airing this subject has really helped some folk.

I'm using an Acer Mobile Pentium laptop 2Ghz and USB with Com Port 1.

I'm a real computer dummy but Nicky Finn of AP was happy to take me in hand and show me the way.

One call and after that it has always worked just fine.

Charlie

See you in Falmouth on Sunday evening.

Re: Problems with APD Communicator Software

I had the usualy issues with the log viewer as reported in this thread.

After many hours of pain, I finally read about the compatibilty mode and got it two work.

fyi, I'm using a Dell Core Duo notebook running Vista. I attached a screen shot to save other people the pain. All I did was right click the AP Viewer shortcut icon and change the compatibility mode.

Re: Problems with APD Communicator Software

I see a lot of ranting & raving towards APD, while I really suspect that most that do haven't really taken the trouble to actually contact APD for guidance.
If you would have, Nicky would most likely have supplied you with the setup document that I have just attached to this mail..... It contains some further necesary tweaks, a.o. a baudrate setting.

'nough said.

Ciao,

Tino.

Re: Problems with APD Communicator Software

i must be one of the lucky one's, i have a dell laptop new in nov 05
when i first plugged in the UBS cable it said com port 4 not found , i then started to looking into the system and i found that i had a bluetooth device plugged in to this port,
even though i do not have any bluetooth item's on my computer , i removed the buetooth device, with program remove in xp, i then replugged in the UBS cable back in to the same port that i had used before, it then said com port 4 found . i have been able to use the APD communicator + Log viewer software with UBS cable, both work with XP window's.
I have been using both programs since the start of dec 06 without any problems.
it may be worth checking to see if you have a buletooth device on your computer that you do not use and is plugged into com port 4. To connect my PDA to my computer i us the UBS cable that it came with.I have not use the built in bluetooth device on the PDA to connect to laptop, so removing the bluetooth device from my laptop did not seem a problem to me.
i have only used built in bluetooth for PDA to PDA or PDA to phone
hope this is of some help to you
safe diving
dave
