| safnolime vs sodasorb for the evo getting prepared for the arrival of the evo and am interested in people's opinion about weather it is essential to use safnolime, as manufacturer recomends for the evo. I've heard debates about the merits of sodasorb and it's affordability. Your thoughts?

| Not a euphemism! ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: safnolime vs sodasorb for the evo Gill, My advice as someone who is relatively new to Rebreather diving would be to stick with the sofnolime as recommended. APD would have done all the work and testing with this brand and you know which way is up. They go as far as telling you the grain size so it makes sense to use this easily available product. Cost should not be a consideration on this vital ingredient, within reason. Hope this helps. Good luck with the new unit. R Mike

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Hi Gill Good news that your unit is on its way. Play safe and use Sofnolime 797 grade 1.0-2.5mm. As this is what the handbook tells you to play with. Hope to have my new Evo by October. Enjoy the fun of no bubbles and the quietness!! Martin ![]() Last edited by Martin in the Med : 23rd March 2006 at 23:06. |

| Re: safnolime vs sodasorb for the evo I used Sodasorb in the 6-12 mesh with no issues at all but I don't do deep stuff nor alot of deco stuff. I am back on sofnolime after picking up 2 sealed tubs off E-bay. I run Vision electronics with a temp stick on my Insp, although many I know use Sodasorb with no temp stick with no issues. |

| Re: safnolime vs sodasorb for the evo thanks for the feedback folks! i've also been getting feedback outside the forum. the general consensus is that Safnolime is less dusty and since it is a smaller granule is more efficient and lasts about %30 longer. Sodasorb also works well but is not technically what AP has done all the tests on, so you are somewhat in the dark there. It sounds like quite a few people are using sodasorb with the temp stick and not having any issues. Since safnolime is quite a bit more $$, sodasorb is probably what we'll go with in the long run. With some first hand experience i'm sure it will become clear. For the training and first bunch of dives, we will probably go with the safnolime so we don't have any unnecessary worries in the back of our minds.

I too usually use sodasorb in all my rebreathers.. On the expedition ANDI did to indonesia we also used sodasorb exclusively and we did dives to 150mI am back on sofnolime after picking up 2 sealed tubs off E-bay. | Re: safnolime vs sodasorb for the evo if all else fails follow the instructions - but when I first started with the inspiration there was no sofnolime available in NZ or Australia so we all used dragersorb with no probs at all. Tim |

| Re: safnolime vs sodasorb for the evo So, let me get a little more specific. do you have experience using the temp stick with sodasorb...any reason why it would not work as well?

| Re: safnolime vs sodasorb for the evo Having followed the discussions about how the temp stick works, I would have thought that it would work fine with sodasorb, however depending on the mesh size you may well find that you don't want to get as far down the scrubber as you would on Sofnolime 797 (you may well have a deeper "active" front).
