Old Inspiration Handsets

Hi All,

I still have the old style non-backlit and "Do you want to die" calibration at depth handsets. Still good as gold. How much does APD charge if I send them and get them over hauled. Will they:

a. just check the head and dust it off a bit.
b. swap the complete head with new hands sets.
c. How much will it roughly cost.

They still work - but they are getting a bit old and scratched. How well does the back light work. Is there more battery drain.

During the maintenance will they also swap the old solenoid. The one I have is close to 7 years old...

Pass but probably not unless you ask for it, I know they redo the wiring (chop a short length off and reconnect it)

It comes on when you press one of the sliders can't remember which ones one does 5 secs the other does15 secs

no reson why they should

Best option is to drop AP a mail to get a real answer.

Two possibilities:

They perform a lid service = new solenoid, new battery box, general service. AP price is around 80 £
They perform a complete update, - which means that everything is new.. Don't know the price on this one, but think it's around 450-500 £

From what I remember Nicky quoted around £375 for the full monty service, expect about £200 for a swap out. I might be mistaken.

I think Jeremy paid about $1500 or so for a complete update. Freight was his biggest hassle, both going and coming.

Na... Baz and I are fine. I know what he has quoted, but I'm in the UK in March and I'm going to take my head and hand sets with me and hopefully will get to see the APD factory as well.

I have decided to not go with the hammeroids and upgrade my old handsets.

Keep it simple - there is nothing wrong with the APD handsets. Plumb a VR3 in and away you go....

Probably less that 1500 AUD if you are there yourself. I think I paid 1500 including freight.

Btw be sure and ask for the new connection types rather than the old Molex versions. A much better solution IMHO.

Yeah it does, but long term they are a far more reliable solution. Pop the old three in a zip lock bag in the fridge and keep them for you VR3 no problems for as long as you like.

Btw, check ahead that they have all the required parts, my service was delayed for a couple of weeks due to a couple of components being out of stock. Should take 10 days if all goes well for you.

Philippa just quoted £320 for computer upgrade cause the backlights are poor on both handsets. I haven't noticed that. What kind of life span you have had at your handset lights? Mine seemed to last only 4 years.
