| Re: Martin Parker You might as well forget about answers to questions 1 & 2. It will be a cold day in hell when Martin tells you that... You might get the answer to question 3.

The class is allready well under way, i'm doing it here in Italy with Gabrielesub' and as for the unit, well if i go the second hand route the world is my oyster, if i buy a new one, it will probebly be from Edoado Pavia, seadwellerdivers, in Rome. Nad However, before 'buying' a unit, i'm not sure i wouldn't like to try something else allso, maybe a kiss, or an 0p2ima in order to braoden my choices and views of the units on the market, and available in Italy, or nearby. So far i'm only qualified on an Azzimuth, but i know it's definately not the way i wan't go! So here i am with the YBOD, but since i'm an IANTD instructor, and what with our affiliation with dive rite, i guess i'll be giving the 0p2ima a whirl at some point in time, but i'll have to wait for it to get CE cirt before it would be sanctioned by IANTD Italia. As for the Kiss well, it's another kettle of fish alltogether and therfore i'd like to at least give it a whirl! ![]()

However it is not a big problem, if you're interested PM me I'll tell you what's going on. One needs to be careful, as APD have an almost religious following and any criticism produces a strong reaction. This supresses information. So, in the spirit of an open response, here are some answers:Q2: HOW MANY UNITS HAVE BEEN SOLD TO DATE? Q3: HOW MANY UNITS HAVE BEEN RECALLED TO THE FACTORY TO MAKE WHICH MODIFICATIONS? Q4: WHAT IS THE FACTORY RECOMENDED DURATION TIME OF THE SCRUBBER AT 100MT. WITH WATER TEMP. 10 DEGREES C.? Answers: 1. Yes. Martin Parker posts on this forum and reads the forum. 2. APD refuse to say how many units they have sold even when challenged by coroners. So far, no-one seems to have sought court diligence on APD to oblige them to provide this information: that would put the information into the public domain. The estimate in the industry of Inspiration sales is between 3500 and 5500. The only time I have heard a higher figure is that in 2004 a member of very senior APD staff is reported to have stated to a component supplier that the number is 50,000: the supplier is very reliable. Clearly the data from APD is false in this instance: there is no way every diver in the UK has bought an Inspiration. If APD do publish a figure in the future, then sales per year is really required to authenticate the number. (Name of person who gave figure is known, but held back here) 3: We are not aware of APD having issued any recall to its customers, even those who bought Inspirations with handsets prior to Sept 2000 when the red backlight handset upgrade was introduced. Handsets prior to that upgrade have a series of gross design faults which results in a mean time between critical faulure of around 20 hours (I experienced about 8 hours MTBCF on those units). What we can be sure of is that if APD have issued any recall then it is patchy: I can state with certainty that there is a pool who have not received any recall letter ever and for whom APD have the correct address. The population of Inspirations with non-backlit handsets is believed to be a few hundred. Anyone with one of these units should have the handsets replaced: this means sending it back to the factory and buying new handsets. This information is common knowledge. 4. You are asking for a factory recommended duration, so only the factory can answer that one. However, from the data we have, particularly the sensitivity to tunnelling in the prone position, I would suggest 2.5 to 3 hours. I know people are using it for 6 hours. You do mention 100m, hence the same sort of conservative figure should be applied that responsible manufacturers use to rate pre-packed cartridges. If any of this information is incorrect, then APD can publish the correction. Cheers Alex Last edited by AD_ward9 : 28th December 2005 at 07:34. |
