Re: feedback on Decoweenie travelframe

If you have a classic inspo scrubber then it want to go either just above the exhale tube nut or just below but I am suprised you are finding it a bit of a tight fit. When you place the lid on hook in the top bit and as you push the bottom into place push the bottom of the scrubber up a little with your fingers. I found it was that that stops the lid dropping in place easily

Got mine last night, very sweet and very light.

I have a small manifold (one of Bob's Bits) and was thinking of copying the Evolution idea of only using a small manifold for the dil and use a longer hoses for the O2 to solenoid & manual injector.

I will weld a small plate on the dil side and the screw the mini manifold onto the plate (so manifold sits in same location as the evo manifold i.e. top left side of the box), it shouldn't add more than a few grams.

Re: feedback on Decoweenie travelframe

So how are people fixing the top weights on? I was considering mounting 2kg to the underside of the slopping lid by drilling it ands using cable ties but I
haven't checked the clarence yet.

Nice bit of kit. Very light but sturdy. Couldent get the point of the buckles half way up the centre stantion? I was thinking the cam band just went around the out side of the middle and rear rod's. I would have gladly paid extra for the holes but I found out too late.

With regards the length I would have thought four simple outer sleeves would do the job. Little grub screws to lock them in place then you could cut the bottom section off about half way down the legs and just use the outer sleeves to reassemble.

Re: Travel frame for Inspiration and Evolution

The frame came just out from water! It works really nice. I eventually left about 2kgs of lead out compared to the AP casing. Trim seemed to be fine and the Rebreather seemed to be faster ro swim.

We have nice diving weather here, -10 C, ice, snow and total darkness and warm water...

Re: feedback on Decoweenie travelframe

I am in the process of making a web page for the Travel-Frame, so there will be more pictures coming on-line soon.

When you are back home on your next break, I am sure you will be happy with the frame.

Re: feedback on Decoweenie travelframe

Just finished putting together my Decoweenie Travel Frame. I have to sa i think it looks cooler than a cool thing on a cold day. I almost jumped for joy when I saw that my little suit inflation bottle fit perfectly below the lid and was held securely in place by the frame. I don't think it was made for it but it could have been

No problems with Assembly but you need some 35mm long SS bolts to mount the back plate and harness to the frame. My Hud unit is now bungee under the scrubber support which is good as I no longer have to take the lid off to calibrate my HUD. Hose routing was no problem at all but having lost my 2.5Kg toop mounted weight I will be interested to see what my trim is like in the water tomorrow I hope I can get away without it.

I tried cam bands to mount the 3ltr tanks but they popped open too easily (a problem I have always found using cam bands on small tanks. So I went for jube clips. OK I need a screw driver but sod it my tanks are not going to fall off because I have hit the cam on something crawling inside a wreck.

I cant wait for tomorrow but I have my doubts if the dive gods will smile quite heavy snow here at the moment. It just looks so streamlined compared to my old YBOD case I am sure its going to be an improvement on drag.

The webbing at the top and the small bungee on the other side is just to hold the tank in place whilst I do up the jube clips.

Role on the diving

Re: feedback on Decoweenie travelframe

Mark,

I am glad to see that the frame seems to be working out for you. Hope the trim will be fine as well.

Concerning using the straps on 3L tanks, I have 2 suggestions that I found working well for me:
  • Check at the DeepSeaSupply website (by Tobin on this board). He has the Cam Strap Tension Pads that helps to store the tension from the strap to secure it.
  • In addition, I slot a section of inner tube right after the cam buckle so after I have the strap locked, I just insert the excess strap under this inner tube. It won't come out, I promise you.
One last suggestion that I haven't had time to try yet, but soon...
  • OMS has a clear emergency tube depth rated past 500ft used to store emergency equipment (i.e. dye, flare, etc) which I will use for those items and/or my u/w MP3 player (only depth rated to 60m). It will be positively bouyant, thus will help your trim if you are bottom-heavy. It should have the same effect as putting weight at the top.
