| Scrubber jackets I hear that a few Inspo owners have taken to putting a neoprene (or other material) wrap around their scubbers to increase their life/reduce condensation. Has anyone done this and does it work?

| I had a piece of spare 5mm neoprene and simply wrapped it round the scrubber and glued it to itself - the technical term for it in my world is "Scrubber Cosy". ![]() The pipe is not wrapped to encourage condensation there and not elsewhere in the head. There is not a huge amount of condensate anyway and I'm not able to say if there is any less. The theory is that the insulation maintains a higher cartridge temperature and that makes the chemical reaction faster and more efficient. Again, I really can't tell the difference, but the neoprene was free from Digger and I had an idle 5 minutes... All in all, this is probably a completely pointless post, but I had another of those spare 5 minutes... I will try and check the condensate levels next time for you though. I never get more than a teaspoon anyway...

| I have heard that a few Canadian CCR divers use cozies on their systems. It has been suggested that I do the same. I would be interested in any test results. At the very least I can't see that it would hurt. Westwinds.

| Where are you guys getting this neoprene that fits around the scrubber? Are you guys actually putting it around the canister itself?

| No mate - wrapping it round the outside of the scrubber, not the inner cartridge. Check Diver Mole/Mad Mole's site for pictures... The neoprene can be bought "off the roll" from various places. I just got given some by a mate who'd been given a load of off-cuts. My thinking is similar to Westwinds - it can't hurt, and since mine is now in a SS case, it also acts to protect the scrubber from knocks. I imagine the slightly higher loop temperature won't do the diver any harm either. Mind you, if it was that efficient, I think APD would have built insulation in and marketed the benefits...

Mike,You can get neoprene in sheet or roll form at http://www.seattlefabrics.com/. They do web/mail/phone orders. They are also a great resource for webbing and other DIY goods. T |

| The KISS Scubber cannister is made of a thick-walled plastic tube which, Gordon Smith says, helps with the insulation of the scrubber material. One of the guys on the KISS list did some CO2 break through testing and found that break through occured roughly twice as fast at 5 degrees C than at 18 degrees C water temp. As a trial, I put a 7mm neoprene cosy over mine last weekend when diving in 5-6 degrees water. Subjectively, there seemed to be less condensation in the top of the unit after the weekend.. Appart from that it does keep the scratches at bay I'll keep you posted if I find out anything revolutionary.. Best A
