Don't use it, stick to AP's mouthpiece for WOB reasons. I've personally never had a problem with it, however, it did seem large when I first used it but you get used to it.

Beware of changing anything from the manufacturers tested items. Everything is there for a reason. The mouthpiece is part of the tested unit. You may not get a problem on a simple dive checking out the fish in 18m but at 80m in a ripping current you may wish for the tested WOB to actually be there for you.

I would not normally think something like a mouthpiece would make a difference but there is a reason why APD fit the large opening and work to keep the teeth open.

For every change you make (and a simple mouthpiece is way more an integral component than normally given credit for) think about what the impact is against the perceived benefits. It just might not be worthwhile when the time comes when it is really needed.

For my money I am sticking with the supplied mouthpiece.

Again, the studies show that humans are not sensitive enought to WOB to be able to objectively tell. This is why objective testing is so important. You just cannot tell.
