Cracked Handset

I have a cracked handset on my classic inspiration (bought used in Dec). The crack is on the face of the clear handset housing and led to the flooding and failure of that handset. I am looking for a reasonable way to repair/replace it. I am not ready to upgrade to some other system like hammerheads or the vision. I am confident that I can get the handset electronics working again, but I need another option for a housing. Is any one making an aftermarket one?Jackie

Other than ditching it for another system (Vision, Hammehead, etc.), your only option is to send it back to AP (or Silent Diving) for service.

hi there's not enough intrest
/ demand to reproduce these aftermarket housings gauged by the response on this forum.
in my experience,most people who have had cracked handset issues with the classic just move onto another unit.
Any way the cracks you are seeing are just a figure of your imagination they don't exist unless you've sneezed on them by accident.
What i can tell you is that 7 months on my shed produced replalcements are holding up nicely.
saying that i did test em by driving a small hatchback car over them ,something the origionals should have been capable of when you look at the track record of the rest of APs products
my advice is pay up and get rid its an expensive short term fix if you decide to stick with em.

Send it back to AP. The see-through case is a free replacement during the head service. Just make sure everything else is working/cleaned up or you'll get stung for a new loom.

Next you'll be telling us a good clean working unit wont go master master at the last moment and need new modules

Surely not!!!

Can't happen to me mate as you know - my modules are from different units/versions. If anything goes wrong, they just scroll "I am a fish" repeatedly and buzz the National Anthem.

Master/master aside, if the microswitch is replaced and the unit cleaned up, then a new (free) clear handset will be the cheapest option as part of the head service. And since it's at the handset end, any "you need a new loom/module" nonsense SHOULD (I know, I know

) be avoided.

Then you can flog it working, and just serviced, and get - oooh, I don't know - say a lovely Deep Pursuit replacement head? I hear they are rather good...

I ended up picking up a used head with two working handsets and will rebuild (maybe with OLED displays) the cracked one at some point down the road.
