Strange behaviour of my Inspiration

Hi,

last Saturday I was underwater with my YBOD. First dive was with a level 2 CMAS Student and we have made some exercises (signs and reactions on signs, nothing special) in a depth of maximum 25M and a dive time of 40 minutes. Second dive, immediately after my student was out of the water we decided to make a second dive. I was with another diver (Megalodon). We went down to 20/23M and suddenly I got a cell alarm: all 3 cells on both computers... This happened as the PpO2 went high (I have it on automatic at 20M). The alarm disappeared immediately and I flushed the machine with AIR and noticed that all 3 cells were reacting similarly so I decided to continue my dive. We were down to 34 M and go for another 30 minutes without any problems.

My Inspiration Vision is brand new so new solenoid, new cells, etc

Any ideas of what happened ?

Cheers

Humuhumu

Yes, I've had this, though usually only on one cell. One of my buddies had problems with this as well, on a brand new head. He sent it back to AP, who told him that he wasn't breathing enough :-)

Essentially, I think it comes from the rapid spike you get when you switch up the setpoint. I've found that it is more likely to happen with new cells, maybe because they are more sensitive. With a little time, they settle down.

As it's annoying (and worrying), I try to let my PO2 creep up towards my target setpoint as I reach the bottom. That way, there's no big swing in PO2meaning less bouyancy change, fewer alarms and less load on the battery.

HTH,

No it is not.
Contact the factory. It has to do with the outlet (nozzle) of the new solenoid. It typically appears when switching from low to high setpoint. The nozzle of the new solenoid then causes a small "whirlwind" which causes a small "bubble" of O2 to temporarily stick with the cells.
APD has developed a better nozzle that causes a better mix in the scruber head, supposedly getting rid of this nuisance.
MartinP from APD wrote about this on the Inspo mailing list a week ago or so.
contact the factory to see if this is your problem. If so, it's easily fixed.
Untill that time, it is not a worrying feature: it only occurs when the solenoid opens a long time (as in switching from low to high setpoint), and it is just a bubble of O2 sitting at the cells temporarily (as in: a few seconds).
It doesn't mean you actually breath that high PO2, as the bubble gets diluted in C/L and hose before it reaches the mouthpiece. Even if you were to breath it, that would only be for a few seconds.
So nuisance, not danger.
But check with APD to be sure: my info is based on hear-say, albeit well informed hear-say... :-)

Ciao,

Tino.

Re: Strange behaviour of my Inspiration

Thank you guys it's good to hear that you have experienced the same. In fact I was not anxious as I get control of the situation quickly. I will mail to APD to fix the problem.

Cheers

Re: Strange behaviour of my Inspiration

its' just annoying I guess as these alarms do grab your focus and attention.
mine on a brand new Evo with less than 15 hours dive time is giving me cell warnings on a single cell as well. i also usually have a cell that is a bit behind the other two.....

Re: Strange behaviour of my Inspiration

Hi,

had the same problem this morning. It happens always when you go on the high set point. I had a very short cell alarm, just on the vision, no buzzer, so very very fast. My PpO2 climbed to 1,45 and so it's not a problem (I can do with 2 for a moment, I had to in the past with my special Dolphin :-). After a second it was back down to 1,2, that's a prove that it's a problem in relation with the new solenoid. APD have offered me to analyze the logs to see how they can fix this, but I'm confident, the problem is well know, their service is excellent, so this should all be fixed shortly.

Cheers

Hi,
Tino , what do you mean by "APD has developed a better nozzle" ? Do you mean that a spare exists ?
thank you

Re: Strange behaviour of my Inspiration

I emailed Nicky @ AP, and they sent me a new / replacement nozzle for the new solenoid, free of charge. Looks different / sounds different / easy to fit. Definitely improved the issue, so problem with 20+ dives on it so far...

Re: Strange behaviour of my Inspiration

Hi,

I have sent my new logs (6) to Zoe. I still have the same problems. I have made a dive on the "TOGO" (a wreck near Cavalaire 50 to 55 and more) and had also a problem while ascending. In fact I had to assist the diver who was with me and lost 0,6M, that produced a "high oxygen" alarm (setpoint 1,4 --> over 1,6) ! I'm waiting for some inputs from APD.

As I have made some dives with other YBOD users (classics) I can say, they didn't have the same problems.

Anyway great unit, I'm very happy to have made this choice, after 2 years with my Dolphin !

Cheers
