| Which back plate? OK I waited six months, I put in a shed load of hours did two week long diving trips and I am back where I was in the car park of Wraysbury in August waiting to do my second try dive with the unit... The harness is crap. I gave it every opportunity to grow on me but its failed miserably and I hate it more than ever. So I have decided on a CD harness, which is what I used OC. I chose to go back to this as the D rings on the end of the adjustable shoulder straps will be handy poking out the side of the counter lungs. If any-one has any comment on this please let me know.. So what back plate do you recommend? Does it have to be modified apart from moving the fixing holes? I was thinking of using an Ali plate to avoid adding expensive travel weight to the unit so do they do an Ali version? Any tips on fitting it? Especially the tie downs for the counter lungs. Pics would be great. ATB Mark Chase

ATB Mark Chase Hi mark, drilling holes in an ali backplate is definately preferable to wasting bit after bit on the ss plate (I think I got through about 3) I found a fitting place for the extra hole is behind the manifold bar (not very convenient though) this permits the use of the lower bolt that is countersunk behind the scrubber without further modification to the ss plate and gave me the closest approximatation to the the original feel of the unit (trim). However I am thinking of moving the plate lower to throw my trim forward having already got 4kg up the top. The trouble is using the BCD (VBS) for bouyancy puts me quite a way off horizontal which is a bit of a wind-up (and lately i always seeem to run out of suit inflate )courses for horses really, to many variables. Also, I dont know what wing youre using but if it is a CD one the under-arm LPI can be a pig to locate and dump when figuring stages CC. I tried it over the shoulder but the pull dump is nowhere near as good. Otherwise its marvellous, I now know what those burly big bouncers feel like barging through crowds cheers pual |

| Mark, I use a Kydex backplate and a harness from Deep Sea Supply. www.deepseasupply.com It is the most comfortable harness I have EVER found. It has the 90 degree D-rings, and Tobin George has adapter plates that make fitting the Inslpiration or Evolution a snap. Cheers! Rob Davie

| While I have not seen the specific harness that Rob is talking about (in person) I have to say the products that I have seen from Tobin have been ROCKIN! I would not hesitate to contact him. I have chatted with him on a few ideas and have always been pleased with his suggestions and the products he builds are awesome! Plus, his rates for production and costs are very low. In fact, Rob have you invited him to join the group yet? Later, Andrew |

| Custom Title Allowed! ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Hello all, Does a normal backplate fits to an Inspiration ? I have a custom divers one, also seeing Deco Diver backplate, how does a normal backplate fits to a YBOD keeping in mind that the YBOD has the manifold bulge and not flat?

I have a custom divers one, also seeing Deco Diver backplate, how does a normal backplate fits to a YBOD keeping in mind that the YBOD has the manifold bulge and not flat? The YBOD's I had my hands on all had 8mm bolts at 11" centers that projected out of the diver's side of the case. Back Plates are pretty much standard with holes at 11" centers for banded doubles. If you want to mount a Back Plate, particularly if you want to be able to easily demount the BackPlate, BC, and CL's you need to change these 8mm Bolts. Two problems, they are too short, and often they are not "captive" to the case. The retrofit kits I've produced and installed include two pieces of 11 ga SS .115" thick, (~3mm) that are threaded to match the bolts. The upper plate spans the depression that locates the scrubber, the lower plate is round 1.5" diameter. These threaded plates (thin nuts really) permit the bolts to be secured to the case, captive in other words, so you don't have to remove the scrubber to access the bolt heads every time you want to take off the BP, BC and CL's. Hope this helps, Tobin
