| Nah. I haven't got the engineering skills to make one! It's actually designed by my instructor, Andy Hayhurst. ("Hayho" behind his back... I bet he'll have me doing the longest mask-off swim in history after that... )I'll post more info tomorrow. I need sleep now... ![]() ![]()

| Re: Which back plate? I did a similar modification that Pierre did. However, in his article he wrote that once he connect the back plate to the ABS, he noticed a role. I must say his idea is really innovative. I took the low road. What I did was cut two single pieces of SS which would fit on the inside of the housing. The first sits in the concave portion where the scrubber sits. It is the same concave shape as the ABS so this does not hinder, or other wise modify the way the scribber sits. This piece is positioned where the bolt goes. Next I cut a quasi T piece that sits flat on the top where the upper bolt is. the bolt fits perfect, and the T does not hinder the carry straps, but actually gives it more strength. More over, each piece reinforces the back plate, eliminates the plate roll, and offers a hugh amount of stabilty, i.e. if you add steel sling bottles, weight, or anything. The pieces I used are attached by the standard bolts, but I did use longer bolts to accomadate the wing, harness, and plates. In essence, it acts like a set of doubles, specifically the bands, bolts, and wing nuts. I have tried the unit, and put it to the test. I am not kind to new stuff, and I put my unit through the paces. It passed with flying colors. Example: I added two filled steel 80's, slung from the back plate, and harness, my camera gear, reels, weight 30lbs, and lights. I walked around, jumped around, sat/stood, and other positions one might find themselves in. Bottom line, with the steel on steel, the ABS housing is freed from the burden of the weight. Now the neet part. When I got into the water I was wearing a 5mm suit in salt water, and I sunk like a stone. DUH!!!! right.... I found that as long as I use the aluminum back plate, and use whatever tanks I need as my weight, I am good with the bouancy. At depth, its cake. GOOD LUCK!!!! |
