Re: D-rings

Boy am I following this thread. I have always had a problem attaching and removing stage/bailout bottles. I had problems diving OC and now on a Rebreather.
Last weekend as part of trimix training of course we had to remove and replace our bailout bottles. Water was cold, around 40 degrees my hands were froze. Because of this I could not even feel the clips, man did I have a hard time, swearing up a storm. Got the dil reattached but ended up having my buddy help with the O2.
The next day we went on a dive without instructor and was then able to get both removed and reattached without help. Not pretty but got it done. Do need practices, practices, practices.
I think one of the problems seems I need to lengthen the bottom clip. Now I have a problem getting near the D-ring seems like the case and whatever is in the way.
Before the class I did do some modifications to my rig. Kind of a modified armadillos setup. I came up with my owns system for the bungee cord. But instead of the butt plate I just tried using the hip D-ring. But had the cam band in the wrong position, this cause the bottle to rotate and the bungee coming off. So stayed with the stock setup
I have thought about changing over to a SS backplate. But really want the give the AP setup a fair try.

Re: D-rings

I gave the AP setup a year. Figured I really needed to know stock before changing. Went to a plate with DSS under counterlung D-rings. What I do is have Lg stage cylinder bolt snaps on the shoulder D-rings for kitting up on surface. When UW I then put stage clips up to the shoulder D-rings.

Re: D-rings

Little clips AP sell to hold D rings out from the wing are a god send they make stages soooooo easy with thick gloves & cold paws, they are cheap at a couple of quid each as well.

Re: D-rings

Why not nose clip it to your hip D-Ring and sort it out once you're in deeper water?

Failing that don't dive off anythign that doesn't include a bench or a lift

Cheers

Rich

Re: D-rings

I also like the large P clips on my stage bottles. Easy to guide/clip onto a 90 degree D ring on the harness belt.

I had a few issues until I found the Verticlips. My problem was that I found it hard to reach to the wing d-ring and clip with accuracy when the d-ring flush up against the wing. As they now stick out, no such problem.

Re: D-rings

  • If possible, kit up in the water where weight ceases to be an issue, and peer/audience pressure disappears.
  • Use longer attachments for your clips.
All I can think off. Out of water means kit is certainly very restrictive.

I hate stages. They're heavy and get in the way. Attaching them to a frame works as long as you are prepared for the heavy lift to stand up.

Re: D-rings

Hi, I fitted a fixed D-ring behind the weight pouch.
You need to cut open the stitches in front of your belt to be able to take the D ring on. Instead of stitching it again I fixed it with steel weight belt retainers.

Re: D-rings

Hello,
I make all kinds of Dee rings take a look and see if any of this can help you out Privateer Divers: Providing High Quality Diving Gear. We also do a lot of custom work as well. On my meg i pushed my lugs to the top of my back plate and use one of our SR-1 Dee rings on my chest and on my waist i use A WR-2 it works very well. I'm off to a Bermuda cave project, but I will try to post pic's once I get there.
