Good to know stuff before purchasing

Helo,

A frien bought his Inspo last week and i am browsing the market to find my own, My friend tells me that i scould be looking for an inspo manufactured after 05 due to upgrades. What upgrades has been made in recent time exept the vision computer? What scould i be looking for and why? My plan is to buy an older unit and complement it with a computer to calculate deco.

Is the flow stop standart on all units? Are there any models i scould avoid?

I will take my course this summer, hope im not asking too many stupid questions

I think the main thing is to be sure of what you're buying. I got a fantastic deal on my Inspo and then replaced the handset modules, looms, solenoid, and switched to the new coaxial connectors for the sensors. I didn't know what I was looking for and it turned out the wires in the looms were badly corroded from the sensors right to the handsets and had to be replaced. I was told that reusing the old handset modules should be alright, but they could crap out so I elected to replace them at the same time rather than have the unit down for repairs twice. The solenoid was shot. I didn't mind putting the money into the unit because I had gotten such a good deal on it and I did know ahead of time that the unit wasn't perfect and hadn't been dived for two years. But if you were to pay $5000 or $6000 for one and had to make the same repairs, you might as well buy new.

In retrospect, I probably should have bought a HH for it when it required such major repairs, but that's something I'll look at investing in in the future.

As I said, be sure of what you're buying and if you don't know what you're looking at, have someone qualified take a look at it before you buy. Caveat emptor!

Cheers, and safe, bubbleless dives,
Al.

Thats another problem for me since i live far away from most people selling a Rebreather. I will have to travel 90km just to do a course. If i buy a machine i will probably need to find one in Sweden or pray for an honest seller.

One option is to speak to some well established instructors, see if they know of any units for sale, and do the course with them - they are unlikely to recommend a bad unit.

90Km to do a course - is that ALL! I flew UK to Cyprus for my mod1 (and had a great time).

Re: Good to know stuff before purchasing

I'd recommend a classic inspiration in your case then, but if you can get one with the upgraded co ax loom as it seems to be less prone to corrosion than the previous ones fitted. Expect to pay no more than £2500. You only need the flow stop if it has an adv fitted, it is preferable to dive the unit without the adv so you get used to running it manually and only use the adv as a luxury on the more demanding dives.

Cyprus? is that all? I flew to Adelaide from Auckland to do mine - about 3000Km across arid Australian sun baked, drought ridden desert - and that was just Melbourne. I needed every one of those beers I had while bar service was open...

Oh, I forgot to mention also across the wild and wooly Tasman Sea, where the sharks are bigger than really big things, it was tough I can tlel you.

Value for money? I'd suggest look for a Inspo classic with Hammerhead or an oldr inspo classic in good condition at a price you can flick the classic head and replace with HH. The HH is a really well designed head really easy to maintain and well thought out.
