| RBW Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Inspo weight If you want to shed a little more weight, then here's a couple of tricks I used last time... 1: Wear a pair of combat pants, remove the first stages from the unit and put these into the pockets. 2: You can remove the SPGs from the hoses (especially if you have brass ones) and put these in the combat pants pockets too. 3: Remove LP/HP hoses, and put these in a WHSmith carrier bag inside a newspaper (you're allowed to take reading material). 4: Make sure you get ALL the water out of the wing and counterlungs, obvious, but surprising how much can be left in there. 5: Get a cheap(ish) torch that takes normal batteries (I have Peli SuperSabre and it's more than adequate for Red Sea diving, including wreck penetrations at night, just take 2 ), buy the batteries at the airport post check in.6: Don't take a reel, a plastic spool is perfect for DSMB deployment in the Red Sea, and less weight, and a little DSMB is all that you need. 7: Head was pretty much the only the hand luggage I declare. All the stuff that's in your pockets, can go back into your hand luggage once you're past check in. It should be possible to get the weight of your checked in crate down to about 25kg this way, including a 5mm suit, fins, mask, what's left of the unit and a change or underpants or two. I've got a 16kg wing lying around, so I'm planning on putting this on the unit next time I go, this should save another few grams. I want to take a load of lime too, so I'm also gonna be looking into the "15kg allowance for sports equipment, in a dedicated bag" that Monarch say you can get.... Good luck Si EDIT: Just read you've got a dry-suit hose fitted to your lightweight unit? You're not gonna be a pussy and dive dry are you?!

Just make sure you go for the SuperSabre light, not the Super PeliLite - the latter only takes 2 C-cells (not 3), is not so bright and is only rated to half the depth of the SuperSabre (75m compared to 150m according to the blurb) Simon |
