solenoid problem?

Hello Folks

I've recently got an evolution plus, it is used, but supposedly just returned from factory service.

I updated it to the most current software, I've checked the reg IP's and they are spot on. I've put in fresh batteries, but can't get it to calibrate.

It runs through the startup, everything looks ok, the solenoids checks out ok. But then with cal - there is no gas added by the solenoid. If I add gas manually, I can get it calibrate, but the solenoid does not seem to work.

Is this just a solenoid problem? or something bigger? Any ideas whether I can fix this by just swapping in a new solenoid.

Can anybody suggest a way to troubleshoot this?

Thanks

Alan

Re: solenoid problem?

One of the times that my wife's evolution solenoid failed it started out just like this... it was finally determined to be a bad coil, according to SDS (the second time it was sent in with the same problem). The controller could not detect the faulty circuit at first and I did, just as you did, callibtrated manually and then suddenly everything started working again... only to have it fail completely on a night dive shortly there after.

I'd call SDS and/or AP. Maybe reload the software to make sure it's not a glitch.

If I remember correctly, AP will now sell you a solenoid replacement kit with instructions on how to replace it. Much easier and faster than sending in the head if you can determine that it's a solenoid problem for sure.

good luck,
g
