I used an Alibox before I got my Titanbox. I've always used a lightweight stainless backplate. I really dont think it makes any difference whether you use one or not. I use the Custom Divers Sport harness which requires a backplate. Wouldnt part with it.It makes it 100 times better and provides an excellent comfortable and stable fit ![]() Our bone backplate was developed when the Submatix came out, we made them for Abyss. Now marketed under our own name and polished. Yummy. Webshop backplate page .

![]() | Re: Experiences with the ALIBOX and a Backplate I use an Alibox with my Inspi Classic, Great piece of kit.. I did the course (MOD1) with the original AP harness but found the clips hard to use in lakes in December, also the floppy d-rings are a PITA. I put a Custom Divers backplate on it afterwards, great for fixing the torch and drysuit bottle (and didn't not lift the canister too far away from the back as some people say). However I was massively overweighted, even with a drysuit, in full battle dress , and was not as easy to get in and out of.The unit was heavy to carry and the one-piece harness was never as good as the AP one (though bp was more durable!). Shoulder d-rings were also a pain as ordinary ones were hard to get at and the 90 deg. d-rings were awkward and got in the way of my arms. (e.g. Scuba Diving equipment at divingniknaks rebreather parts) Once I figured out how to fix the torch and drysuit bottle I went back to the AP harness, definitely comfier and the (front) clips are in the right position. So.. I you want less on the weightbelt, use a steel backplate, but for comfort and travel use the AP harness (though stitching only lasts so long!) HTH 24 hours and I'm still fettling ! |

I dive a dry suit all of the time in water that is 5-9C and find that with the V weight that I made I don't require any weight belt at all. I do have QR buckles on each shoulder as well as Golem Gear counter lung "D" rings that make attaching g the BO a dream. Over all I love the set up. Rob |

Hello!Rob What harness do you use? is it easy to get in or out of the unit? how much kg does your v-weight have? I'm also diving a dry suit all over the year. I dont want to use a weight belt. So i think i will buy a SS backplate. regards anton

![]() ![]() | Re: Experiences with the ALIBOX and a Backplate mrs vid and i both have aliboxes and use steel (me) or ali (mrs vid) backplates. the boxes are a treat for uk diving. we use travel frames for holidays overseas we both dive a mixture of oc and cc - the backplates get switched from unit to cylinders and back. we use plates rather then putting the harness straight onto the box, to add sufficient weight to avoid a weightbelt - now that we're moving to larger 5L cylinders on the box, that may not be a requirement - time to investigate during the summer vid
