Is my YBOD leaking?

Hi All

After diving my YBOD it have about 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of water in my exhale C/L, there is almost none in the inhale CL and scubber stack. Is this normal? I know that some is suppose to collect there but to me it seems rather much. I taste it sometimes its briny and other times it is not. The positive and negative checks are good and I just changed all of my O-rings.

Scott,

I had this for a while... held both positive and negatives tests... but still had a fair amount of water in the exhale lung.

Check your mouthpiece - or "mouth bite" as AP call it. Finally figured that the cable tie was slightly loose and water was seeping in around the mouth piece.

Hard to believe... but that's all I could put it down to.

You may also find that if you vent gas from your mouth whilst ascending that you let it in past your lips.

Aah, you must mean "Loop Gloop". This is dribble from you that collects in the exhale lung. It can be sold onto Americans to use as mask defogger.

An alternative use on tropical boats where everyone is barefoot, is to tie the unit upright in its rack on the boat, remove the exhale inflate button, and permit the "Loop Gloop" to drain out of the lung and across the deck. Eventually people realise what you've done, that they are walking in it, and call you rude names in several languages....... Well it passes the time......

The name "Loop Gloop" as far as I can tell is an invention of Gordon Henderson. It (Loop Gloop not Gordon) can be stored for several days, but eventually goes green and rather strange looking.

I had the same problem and we came up with the same idea... mine was getting into the bottom of the scrubber canister though. In the end we decided that it was a mixture of water getting in through the mouthpiece and repetative skills

Along the lines of APD........ Ambient Pressure Dribble™

Just a thought going back to the thread, it is just a small thing but my mouthbite used to move alot due to the nature of my bite and often twisted on the mouthpiece. I attributed some of my excess Loubycation™ to this and replaced the tiewrap making sure it was alot tighter, this seemed to help a little.

Although this might just be coincidental... its just a random thought
