Autoair mods

Does anybody know a simple way to defeat the automatic 'breathe the jacket' mode of the Autoair? Much as I like the thing as a bail out reg it's ability to switch from breathing the cylinder to breathing my remaining buoyancy seamlessly strikes me as a bit worrying. I'd like a bit of warning before I innocently exhale and start to sink.

The trouble is that it seems to be difficult to separate the jacket dump from the jacket breathe operation.

Could I just double up on the spring?

Re: Autoair mods

I removed the Autoair all togeather and replaced it with a basic no frills scubapro inflator only. Removed a lot of failure points from the stystem and I always dive with a bailout tank anyway. That also meant the coragated hose on the BC could be shortened to something more normal and manageable as well.

That's what I'll be doing shortly. I'm petrified at the idea that some OOA OC diver will latch onto the Autoair and breathe down the already limited dil supply that I have (and then breathe down my bouyancy). The other benefit is the cost saving on GCS hoses, as I can use the Autoair hose for something that contributes more to safety overall

Cheers,
