![]() | Fitting Backplate and Harness to Inspiration Have been looking at fitting a standard stainless backplate (minus a relief for the manifold bulge) to the inspiration case. Has anyone found any problems with cracking of the black case around the bolt penetrations? Seems that the plate has a tendency to roll side to side a little. Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

This kit https://www.deepseasupply.com/index.php?product=123Has anyone found any problems with cracking of the black case around the bolt penetrations? It provides two fixed studs, and provides a flat surface for the Backplate to mate to. There is no need to notch or otherwise modify either the AP case or the back plate. The fixed studs are the key. This eliminates the need to remove the scrubber to access the heads of the fasteners. All you need to do to remove the backplate, harness and CL's is spin off two thumbwheels. We also make a kit for the Evolution. Tobin

![]() | Re: Fitting Backplate and Harness to Inspiration I used an ally plate, and just cut out a section to accept the bulge. I used 5mm longer bolts, with the original nuts. The holes in the backplate were enlarged to accept the shanked bolts. It all holds steady and I am very happy with it, although a stainless plate would be an advantage for the weight. JD

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Fitting Backplate and Harness to Inspiration It's very simple really - I used standard M8 stainless bolts from my local chandlers, together with washers to spread the load. No cracking as yet. I've put nuts on to hold the bolts in place in the case, as otherwise you need three hands to put the unit together. I've had no issues with the backplate moving around at all. Cheers,

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Fitting Backplate and Harness to Inspiration I found the original holes on the backplate were too low and messed with my trim so I drilled holes above the stock holes. I also enlarged them to accept the larger nut. If you remove the grommet from the BP webbing it also helps to eliminate the rocking of the BP. But with the nuts sitting flush with the larger holes and no grommet I have not had any issues.

![]() | Re: Fitting Backplate and Harness to Inspiration I used an old OMS single tank adapter, cut it in smaller halves, and used it to fit on the inside of the case behind scrubber, and to the upper bolt. I changed the bolts and used flat head hurricane screws, with washer wing nuts (included in box of screws). When I put the back plate on, aluminum, or steel it doesnt move at all. Its rock solid, and all the weight is divided between the back plate, and the cut out so there is no stress on the case at all, and yes I have put it through the paces. Best of all.....Total cost was $4.83 Only weak spot is the carry handle because the braces are plastic.
