Replacement Wings for Inspo

I am trying to replace on my Inspiration Classic both wings and the harness. For several months I use a SS backplate (Portland oceaneearing standard without handle), but I do not like its use with original wings and harness (the 16 litres wings are very compressed and they lose at least 1 / 3 of their capacity and the harness is unnecessarily complex and cumbersome with the SS backplate). I know that there are many alternatives but a problem is the top height of the new bag, which combined with the small distance between the top hole (M8 screw) on the inspo case and the respiratory hoses can also interfere with the hoses (see recent Martin Parker note in the APD forum). I would like a more voluminous Wings (35-42 lbs?), with a central adequate space to put the backplate (Oxycheq Vertex 42? Custom Divers Bravo 43? Golem Gear circular 35 lbs? Halcyon Evolve 40?). Some of You can clarify this problems?

Hello!

A friend has the DiveRite Dual Rec.
he said it fits perfect.

There is a little documentation of his modifications:

Re: Replacement Wings for Inspo

The AP22Kg wing + SS backplate works fine for me. The AP22Kg wing I bought had trimpockets which I found very useful. I have not noticed any problems with the hoses etc.

Re: Replacement Wings for Inspo

The Custom Divers VBS Wing was specifically designed to be used with Rebreathers might be worth looking at that I know its what I am getting to use on my Inspiration and KT Cage:

Quality Diving Equipment by Custom Divers - VARIABLE BUOYANCY (50-76 LBS) SYSTEM (With b/plate, Tech harness complete).

Hi there,

I use a standard SS backplate with webbing and a DiveRite double bladder.
both on a DT-Box. Works perfect.

Been in the same boat for a few months with my Evolution. Changed to a backplate and already DXed the Autoair for a normal inflator, but I still would like to replace the whole wing.

The worry I have is that right now I have 2 5 pound weights in the wing's trim pockets and thats not really enough for proper trim.

In my dreams I would like a 360 bladder, normal inflator, thiner near the top, a wide back pannel, trim weight pockets very near the top, and comes in purple.

I've scoured the forum but mostly only found disscusions of differant wings with other units than the Insp/Evo

Re: Replacement Wings for Inspo

You know, this probably won't help but IMHO the best wing for the Inspiration is the 22 Kg APD wing.

I tried many variations over the years including CD and Dive-Rite and eventually returned to the factory wing which worked great with a SS backplate.

Cheers,

Dave Cooper.

Hi Dave and Blomman

Where and how can I buy the 22 kg APD Wings? I know that this is an option to purchase the rebreather, but they do not appear as spare parts in the APD list...

Ciao Claudio,

Give APD a call and they will sort you out with a local distributor or ship direct.

Cheers,

Dave.

Re: Replacement Wings for Inspo

I can understand why you want to replace the harness (many people don't like them, some do), but I would not replace the standard wing. It really fits. As for another wing being bigger, why do you think that you need that? Which scenario do you have in mind where the large wing would be helpfull?

It would take quite some stages for a bigger wing being an issue from a weight point of view and if you need multiple stages, you can bet that some of them will be filled with trimix, so buoyancy wise that should not be a relevant factor.

If the unit would flood, you loOse maybe 5 kg worth of upwords buoyancy, so if you are not overweight, a normal APD 22 wing should get you to the surface, even if you loose some when used in connection with a backplate. You would perhaps not float high on the surface with the unit all filled with water, but I would think that being on the surface in such an unlikely event should be enough.

Rgs,
Niels

P.s. Something else to consider is whether you want an alu or a steel backplate. Depending on your overall configuration, using alu might make sense if this means shifting some unditcheable weight from your back to some ditcheable weights in front.
