| How heavy is yours? Hi everyone, I am a newbie at this so please bear with me. I have not received my Inspo Vision yet but will be travelling to Egypt with it shortly after getting it and need to work out how much excess baggage I need to pay for. My idea was to remove the vision head, the 1st stages and HP/MP hoses and the manifold and store them in hand luggage, whilst leaving the rest in the hold luggage. I will be leaving the 3ltr cylinders at home. Has anyone else done this? If so, how heavy was the rest of the inspo? How heavy is the Inspo Vision complete? Would it be better to transport in the crate it comes in? If so, how heavy is that? Also I have been told to bring my own sofnolime because its hard to get in Sharm el Sheikh. It will have to be a full carton for a week I guess. Anybody know how heavy a carton is full of lime? or if there is a better place to buy over there? or better way to get it there? If anybody has got any better ideas I am all ears. Thanks muchly. Regards Stewart |

| Re: How heavy is yours? I did a full breakdown of my unit and worked out that I could get the wing/harness inside the yellow case and all the hoses/manifold and 1st stages would go into the case too. Fins, wetsuit, mask and torch would also fit. This went to about 20Kg if I remember correctly. In my rucksack would go the head and scrubber (full) along with VR3. All works out well. Unfortunately there will be some re-assembly at the other end but it is do-able. Since then I have bought a stainless cage, added a suit bottle. My unit now weighs 37kg - so no travelling with it anymore ![]() As previous post, large tub of kitty litter is 20kg. This will do you 8 fills (approx 2.45kg per fill). HTH. John

| Re: How heavy is yours? My unit has been over to the redsea 5 times now. this is how i do it, stirp 1st stages and place in my pockets on my cargo pants. Along with my VR3. I place the CCR head (elecs only) in my hand luggage. This weighs about 3kg so plus a torch takes my hand luggage to the alloted 5kg total. remember those 1st stage and VR3?? well they go in my hand luggage as soon as i check through the check in desk (just in case they weigh hand luggage, have had this b4) Hand luggage now weighs about 8-10kg> But by this stage i am past weigh in ![]() I leave the scrubber and can inside the yellow and black case (straped in its normal place) and fill it with my boxers and socks etc. I do this to stop the scrubber bouncing inside the can and it's also a neat place to put it. I then place a few t-shirts and shorts also in the inspo case and then close it up. I put my wetsuit in the case 1st, followed by the unit, lungs faced onto of the wetsuit (to protect the T peices) spread my mask and fins into the rest of the gaps in the case and close it up. All in all it weighs in at roughley 25kg's, officaly 5 kgs hand luggage but really in the region of 10kg and im set. Spread some of my clothes into the wifes luggage and im ready for the off. Sofnolime is ready available in the redsea in sharm, its just expensive. Aaron at tekstream is a sound fella and has lime at the centre. Traveling with a CCR is not easy nowadays, play the airlines at ther own game. My wife is about 5ft size 8 and weighs about 7st, i am 6ft and weight 14stone. Does she get 7 stone more allowance than me???? i dont think so. So do i feel bad....................ermmmmmm NO ![]() Enjoy your trip ATB Gareth

| Re: How heavy is yours? On a recent overseas dive trip we manged to get all our luggage into one check on bag weighing 30kg. One carry on each with two regs and the breather head each. Bugger all clothes. We left the case and cylinders at home and transplanted everything else onto the Dave B's light weight ally travel frame which there is a write up on here at Rebreather World. We couldn't be bothered mucking around getting rid of the manifold and rejigging the hoses from the first stages so it got attached as well. The travel frame breaks down into three neat pieces which is easy to pack. We got the frames made at a local metal works place for a couple of hundred bucks AU each. At destination the travel frame gives you the option to dive any size cylinders, from 2L to 11L. To pull your inspo appart form it's case is no harder than pulling a set of fully rigged OC twins appart, IMO. All the best with preparation for your trip.

Aaron at tekstream is a sound fella and has lime at the centre. there's a few people who have posted on the merits of taking your own sorb with you - and i have done this too.we went to red sea in november, by the time you add the cost of the current excess luggage charge for carrying a 20kg+ tub (which you still have to pay for here) and then the hassle with customs, it was easier/simpler to pay a little extra to the guys in sharm - it turned out to be about £20 extra per person for a week's lime (depending on how many fills you use) HTH vid

| Re: How heavy is yours? Hi All, Travelled to Red Sea last October with Tony Backhurst Scuba and flight was British Airways. Had 23kg hold allowance plus an extra free 23kg for divers. Hand baggage was size restricted but not weighed. I took my inspo without cylinders and head in one wheely bag with suit and fins. Another wheely bag had my cylinders, clothes, reels ,dsmbs etc. Hand baggage took head, computer, torch, camera and chargers. We had several of our group on open circuit and they made up their 46kg allowance with lime for us ccr divers. The extra 23kg did not have to be prebooked and B.A. staff at the check in desk were very helpful. Dave |
