Re: Vision V02_01_04 released

I did not get the email, but I contacted SDS and Mike, thanks Mike, sent me the following copy of the email. I think this should answer a lot of the questions out there, but I would guess something happened with the mail process, since it looks like no one got the orginal email.

Dear Vision Owner,

Software Version 02.01.04 has now been released and should be downloaded from the website http://www.apdiving.com/downloads/software/ and uploaded to your rebreather. It replaces Version 02.01.03.

IMPORTANT: In the download pack is a new APD Communicator which must be installed first, and must be used to install the new program to the Vision lid !

This version completely over-writes previous software, so simply load V02.01.04, regardless of which version you have currently on your Vision lid. Also released are new versions of the APD Communicator and APD LogViewer.

All the language versions are available to everyone. You can change from one language to another and back again simply by uploading the desired language file.

V02.01.04 is an open upgrade. It is suitable for all Vision lids, regardless of the decompression option chosen and regardless of the serial number, so one copy of the software can be uploaded to all (Vision) rebreathers. The personal details will be retained on the handset as will the decompression software status, dive logs and memory buffer – so it is quite in order to upload this new software in between dives, in fact at your earliest convenience.

Download Instructions:

Step 1) Download the file:
Go to http://www.apdiving.com/downloads/software/ and select the language version you require. Enter the required registration information and download the zip file to a readily accessible location on your PC . The zip file contains the Upload software for your Vision electronics and the two APD programs, Communicator and LogViewer. The software for your Vision electronics (Vision_V02.01.04_English_Sport_System.ccr) is NOT an executable file, so “double clicking it” won’t work – instead go to step 2:
Step 2) Install the new APD Communicator:
Once the files have been extracted, firstly install the APD Communicator by double-clicking on it. It simply replaces your installed program, there is no need to “uninstall” the old version. Leave the “create a desktop icon” box ticked and it will simply overwrite your old desktop icon.
Step 3) Connect your PC to the Vision lid:
Step 4) Run the APD Communicator Program:
Step 5) Upload the Vision ccr file to the rebreather
Step 6) Install the APD LogViewer Program

On the Download site http://www.apdiving.com/downloads/software/, you’ll see there are full description guides to downloading, uploading and trouble shooting as well as the guide for Macintosh owners.

Re: Vision V02_01_04 released

Why have so many people decided to post the list of changes? I know someone asked for them, but they've already been posted. Those who really need to know will have the email from APD anyway.

Cheers,

They bought the units in the first place, what do you think?

Cheap shot, couldn't resist, too early for a Saturday, not enough coffee yet - I apologize.

Re: Vision V02_01_04 released

Hi guys,

Have you actually tried diving with the new software yet? I'm a bit sceptical regarding installing it on my Vision as I fear there might be some unknown bugs which also cause other problems. Please advise what pros and cons you guys had so far with the new software vs. the previous one.

Best Regards. Wael

Re: Vision V02_01_04 released

Do you have any argumented reason to suspect it for "unknown bugs" and/or "cause other problems"..?
If you do: please specifiy, as that is what Rebreather World list is for.
If you don't: this is called FUD (Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt).

Why would you want OTHERS to find that out for you? How about making some test dives yourself, testing all functions in a safe environment? (couple of meters depth, with an attending buddy - that's what I do).
If You don't trust Your unit, Don't Dive it. Nobody will force you to apply this upgrade. Just stay with your current one if you like it.

In my personal experience the bugs in previous versions were only quite minor, and mainly affected the deco-calc-part ("missed stops") and switch-on/off part, all of which didn't affect the diving mode in any dangerous way.
To me they were in the "nuisance" category.
You can deduct that already from the quite short list of bugs this update remedies.

Things like the altered battery warning suppression and altered (re-tuned) battery displaymode are just there to make life easier on the diver. They are not bug-solving: they are simply improvements ("tuning", if you like) driven by feedback of divers on things they wanted to see changed. The same applies e.g. to the IMHO very valuable addition of the battery testing function in the previous update.

Ciao,

Tino.

Re: Vision V02_01_04 released

Hi,

Well, it's definitely not about trusting my unit, as I have been diving it for some time now and even though my experience might be limited but it would have been obvious if there was any problem with it in general and of course my maintenance technique is very thorough so I wouldn't skip an O-Ring to check before diving. However, my concerns aren't specific to rebreathers' software but to all software in general and I have previous experiences with new software i different domains so that's why in my opinion it would be known to people regarding the positive and negaive sides so personally I would prefer to hear about the experiences before jump into it.

Thanks again Tino . So how about that Trimix course now?

Best Regards. Wael
