![]() | CCR and Ice diving Hello there all, I am just beginning to fact find about doing some ice diving in either the northern China,Mongolia or Russia next year. I work in the South China area so access is not to problematic Has anyone had experience with the Inspiration vision on this type of dive and if so any recommendations. I would obviously be diving under instruction of an experienced ice diver / instructor as i have not done any training on this condition previously but i am thinking of any problems specifically with the unit that i could be advised about for working at these temperatures. Anyone know of any CCR experienced ice divers in this region using the Inspo vision ? I am waiting for a reply from a dive club in Beijing who do ice diving trips but as of yet no reply relative to the use of CCR. Any information on this appreciated. Regards, Alex.(mod 1). |

I did the BSAC Ice diving SDC and there were Inspirations on the course.Actually it seemed easier than OC in parts because keeping the valves underwater (warmer) as you check breathed everything was far more convenient than our Y-valve rigs. Beware of the operating temperature restrictions on the kitty-litter though.

![]() | Re: CCR and Ice diving Hello there all, H Alex. I've taught ice diving for a few years now, both OC and CCR. The most important point is to prebreathe the unit properly to get the reaction in the sorb working properly. It's also worth bearing in mind that the interesting bit is usually the ice so you'll be shallow - it can make set points and buoyancy an issue. Oh, and you're heavier on the ice than a single cylinder diver so please volunteer to walk over the ice with your kit first to check how thick it is. There's also some things to bear in mind if you're at altitude (typically I go for alpine lakes in the winter). Inspo covers also make excellent sledges. Rich |

| Born Again Diver! ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: CCR and Ice diving Hi Alex, I am up in Beijing. I have been unable to find any diving here in China, so went up to Mongolia last year ( I work there quite a bit) and took my rebreather. I can put you in touch with people who can get you oxygen, and there is a stash of dive kit and a couple of compressors up there. I was also involved in the BSAC ice diving course, but did that on OC when back in Europe. No problem to take sorb up, in fact, I just landed about 3 hours ago from a trip and brought back what I had left from August. It is a bit chilly , it was minus 20 today, maybe a little more last night. Would your electronics handle that? Let me know if I can help you in any way. Was it Sino scuba you wer ein touch with? Russia is maybe easier from Irkutsk in Lake Baikal. I gather there is a half decent teckky centre up there, and they are better at cutting holes in the ice! Cheers Dave p.s. still looking for something closer to Beijing, I may have a couple of ideas.
