| Going Down? Current Rebreather/s: | Re: MOD 1 looming! It is not uncommon to have a problem learning strictly from books. Once you and your instructor begin the "hands on" training, things will take on a whole new vision for you and begin to make sense. Please make sure that you learn and understand everything that is taught. Don't dive if you have any questions or uncertainty. We want to keep hearing from you ![]()

I haven't dived O/C, apart from teaching, since buying one.... If you can, make sure before you get in the water, your instructor helps you strip the unit completely down and rebuild it. I found this very useful and informative and then later on if you have to take something apart for any reason you are not so worried. welcome to the dark side ash |

| Re: MOD 1 looming! Congratulations and enjoy your course. I really enjoyed mine, despite being very wound up about it beforehand. I had the same problems/concerns before my course. I'd done a lot of reading over quite a few years (rebreather list, RBW, the recommended books, the AP manual etc.) and still didn't think I had a clue. By the time I'd stripped the unit down and reassembled it a couple of times on day 1, I was pretty happy I understood that. The diving fell into place from there. It's different to OC, but not fundamentally all that different. It's been nearly a year now. I haven't got as many hours in as I would have liked, but I'm very happy with the unit. I have a lot to learn and perfect yet, but I'm enjoying every minute of it. Cheers,

| Re: MOD 1 looming! Congratulations on your purchase, I bet you are just sat staring at the bloody thing and itching to get in the water with it - I know I was! I had about a 6 week gap from buying the unit and starting the course and I, like many previous posts, read as much as I could to understand the principle of the box. I can assure you, your feelings are normal and it's very good that you feel this way. If you didn't have this apprehension I think you'd need a good shake! I did my course just under a year ago and I now have 60 hours under my belt. I learn something each dive and am still paranoid about the checks prior to diving etc. All I can really say is read the manual and books so that you know it theory wise, practically your instructor will teach you all about the unit so that you are comfortable working on it yourself. I remember my first scrubber fill on my own, think it took me ages, paranoid or what!?!?! Good luck with your course and don't feel pressurised to do things you are not ready to do. It's your course, you've paid for it, make sure you get everything you need to out of it. If you're happy after 8 or 18 hours it doesn't matter. Be patient too, my buoyancy was horrendous (some say it still is ) but with time it will come together.I don't miss OC and certainly don't regret buying the box one little bit. There is a lot of information on this site, may I recommend that you keep your unit bog-standard until you are happy using it, then modify if needed, mine is pretty much 'out-the-box' and I like it. (few mods coming up though) Once again, good luck, you won't regret it!! John

| Re: MOD 1 looming! No worries about the manuals... I started at MOD1 on Inspiration and I haven't read in any books before... I did know what a Rebreather was though and how it worked, but I haven't got deep into it before the course... Good luck with it, and happy diving... Cheers Bo Urskov |

| RBW Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: MOD 1 looming! I felt a bit the same as you when I was preparing myself for the course. I read as much as I could and tried to fairmiliarise myself with the gear as much as I could without actually diving with it. Once you start your course your instructor will let you know the bits you really need to know. There is a bit of simple math but the main thing is to know your way around the rig and where things are. Which side is which etc. It sounds as tho you're on the right track getting stuck into the books before hand. I still get them out and read through them from time to time, it's surprising what you pick up reading them again later on. Good luck with the course and let us know how you get on. Regards, Lance
