Hose fitting installation

Hello everybody, Joey here.
A question to all of you concerning replacing hose fittings on an evo.
My wife wanted her mouthpiece hoses shorter, so I managed to remove both ends where they connect to the T piece, cut three rings off on each side, and have them assembled. Well, almost. How in the world do you get the outer ring to screw all the way back up ?
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
