| Re: Whats involved in an inspo service? .................................... Not quite, the clear polycarbonate outer case (the bit that cracks) is replaced free as part of the £176 full service. £376 is to change the electronics as well.So new handsets cost 376£. JH Still doesn't excuse the fact that the polycarbonate case is a poor design and shouldn't crack in the first place. Maybe its APDs way of achieving Alex's aim of having the kit returned to the factory for regular servicing?? Simon |

| Re: Whats involved in an inspo service? Still seems like poor design to put what is essentially a consumable in a position where it takes a highly priced dealer service to replace it. I think you could equally say poor design on behalf of the display manufacturer. I'm not aware of backlights failing on any LCD display I own! I agree though - it's a pain not to be able to replace the display, and I have a dim handset too. However, I guess in the grand scheme of things a well-potted module was considered safest and I tend to agree. On a general point, I think Alex was right to point out that this stuff is a decade old. They've addressed these particular issues in the Vision. I quite like the simplicity and robustness of the Classic. It has its foibles, but I think we know what they are and know the work-arounds. Better the Devil you know... ![]()

| Re: Whats involved in an inspo service? Would someone explain why AP don't create new handset covers which aren't as brittle? .....or is it a revenue generation thing where they bust their holes laughing everytime a classic comes back with a minute crack in a handset? |

| Re: Whats involved in an inspo service? Would someone explain why AP don't create new handset covers which aren't as brittle? They did, it's called the Vision.I would guess they had their eyes on a complete makeover for some time before the public got a hint that something was comming. |

| Re: Whats involved in an inspo service? It's something like this - any errors are due to me having a memory like a sieve... Hello,Lid service: £35.25 pressure test for leaks (this will find those cracked handsets!) check cell wires solenoid handsets replace microswitches if necessary replace battery box if still the old pillar style Not too unreasonable I think? If you have cracks, or you ask for it, it becomes a Full service: £176.25 As above and - replace O-rings test modules test loom replace polycarbonate handsets as required I think that's it but I may have missed something out. I guess the annual £35 lid service might save money in the long run. I suspect that I wouldn't get away with anything less than the Full now... ![]() Concerning the vision and the tempstick system, what do you need to send back to APD? lid+scrubber? is it part of the £35 service? thks Bernard |

Simon To change the plastic they need to dig most of the cables from the moulded electronics, not going to happen I say, but I have been wrong earlier also... JH |

They told me that I had a cracked hand set (I could see water in it) and they changed it as part of the £176 service. The link in Mdemons post, #6, shows that the clear plastic case can be changed without disturbing the potted electronics. To change the plastic they need to dig most of the cables from the moulded electronics, not going to happen I say, but I have been wrong earlier also... JH The new case looks to have more cracks than the old one but that's another story. Simon |
