| Blogs Admin / Forum Mod ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Classic Inspiration - Cell 2failure Hi, Just to give you a heads-up: This weekend I changed 2 O2 sensors on my Classic Inspiration and when I finished reassembling the unit, sensor number 2 was dead. On closer inspection - sensor showed nominal output when tested with a V meter - I found one cable into the molex connector was broken. The break was exactly where the black outer part of the insulation had been removed. My guess is, that when this was done, the cable was accidently cut into and it finally broke at the weak point. So please! check the cables that go into your sensors for any cuts or breaks! Might save you a dive or ... your a**e. ![]()

| Re: Classic Inspiration - Cell 2failure Something for the "f*cked up kit thread"? What does the wire look like inside? I've had the same happen and it was due to "black cable death".

| Re: Classic Inspiration - Cell 2failure Hi, I recently had a similar problem. The wire didn't actually snap, but had a nick in the insulation, which effected its working. I replaced the Molex with one bought from AP and used needle nosed pliers to bend the bits on the plug over. My guess is that when I sent it down for service the year before it was accidentally nicked. Here is thread I started. http://www.rebreatherworld.com/inspi...ad-needed.html Best regards Ian |

| Re: Classic Inspiration - Cell 2failure Mine went in the same way over a dive weekend. A trip to the local computer shop for an old fan, B&Q for a gas soldering iron and the supermarket for some Stella and open head surgery took place in the sun, on the grass, in front of the B&B. No need to crimp molex, just solder the pre-crimped bit from the fan on. Happy days. ![]() The coax plugs are much easer to fit. Maybe an option for next time you change cells?

| Re: Classic Inspiration - Cell 2failure I got the black death on the cable and after five years I could not resolder the wire even after cutting back and using sandpaper on the wire to try to tint the wire. It just wouldn't take the solder. My only soloution was a rewire, so after a £736 service its all working great again. PS how much is a vision upgrade.....?

It just wouldn't take the solder. My background is electronic servicing, I've rewired a few boats for mates, fixed flooded torches etc, and have always found that using flux (not just flux-cored solder) will usually help the solder to "take" on the wire. Decent flux can be get from any electronics store. Some solder wick could be useful too.Worth a try, especially if a (possibly unnecessary) re-wire is gonna cost you 700quid...... ![]()
