| Replacement Wing A search of the forums so far has not found me an answer to this question... Time to replace the Buddy stock wing on my Evolution. Are there any wings out there that fit particularry well as a replacement? Currently I dive the unit with a DSS long steel back plate but still need two 5 pound weights in the top trim pockets to keep a good level trim. Any sugestions?

I have been using a Halcyon CCR wing on my Evo for about a year and its been great, very streamline and has the lift where you want it(down low). Its rated at 35lbs and has been fine with two stages.

I have a 70lb oxycheq for my double steels but I did'nt like the coragated hoses attachment position, very close to the center of the wing. It would definately be in the way with the loop.

| Re: Replacement Wing Check out the Oxycheq extreme wing, they have single or double bladder, there extremely tough (bulletproof) I love mine, I use to dive a Halcyon. I have a 55 lb Oxycheq Vertex wing on my Evo, on top of a DSS plate The 360 degree wing fits pretty well, although it's a little thick on the bottom, so you want to be careful not to set the unit on top of it too much. I suppose a 36 lb wing would be more streamlined, but there just wasn't enough lift in the stock wing for use in the cold water up here with a couple of sling bottles, so "upgrading" the AP Valves wing with one of the same capacity seemed pointless, unless one wanted to remove the "beer cooler" pocket and the funky "weight holders" they include, which is a noble goal in and of itself...The downside is that the inflator is centered, which means I had to adjust hose routing and keep the inflator inside the loop, close to my head...needed a new LP hose, but no big deal. Turns out after diving it a while like that, I actually prefer the much, much shorter hose and the inflator to the left of my ear, as opposed to the long, dangly hose that APV includes (and I had cut down and replaced the BuddyAir with an Air2). It was always swinging around and getting caught on the stage bottle; the new hose stays right where it ought to. In any case, the Oxycheq stuff is hard to go wrong with, and they fit the Evo beautifully. FWIW, I throw about five pounds total in the top of the unit (on the scrubber), ten on a weight belt, and that's it for the cold northwest waters... the 5.5 pounds negative on the plate balances out the rest of what I need to carry. |
