Molex plug fitted for Classic Head needed in Central London

Hi,

One of my molex plugs on my Classic Head needs to be replaced/refitted- if I wiggle it it makes connection, but another wiggle and it doesn't.

I have moved the wire from cell to cell and confirmed it is the wire and not the cell itself.

I was thinking of sending it down to AP but have been told this is a common problem and one easy to fix with the right tools and costs about 10p...

Does anyone know any electrical shops in Central London which can do this, or someone who live in/near London which can do this for me ( for a fee of a beer or two..)

Best regards,

Ian

Ian,
I've got the correct crimp tool for this, If you've got the spare terminals and we can work out how to get it to you, you're welcome to borrow it.
Alternatively you can buy the crimp tool your self for approx £25 inc delivery from Rapid Electronics

Hi Simon,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I haven't got the bit but could most likely get hold of one.

I think I would rather take the head to someone and have them do it, as I don't want to practice on my costly to repair unit!

Have you done this repair yourself? Is it that tricky?

Best regards,

Ian

Ian, I've recently had the same problem with mine.

I took the head to AP for them to refit the connector. They were very helpful and took the head and me into the workshop. When they trimmed back the wire to refit a connector it was black! In January it had been given a clean bill of health by AP.
So, one new loom later....
Hopefully you will get away with the 10p fix...

Yes, AP! And they will sell you the gold plated ones too, not the SS ones you find more commonly online.

They don't mind you doing it yourself IF you have the crimping tool. And you'll probably have them next day.

Don't feel you have to avoid AP - you're not the first to want to do this and you won't be the last!

Molex makes 2 type of gold pins, they look the same but one is a much better quality pin.. There is a thread in the KISS section giving the various part numbers and the pin compositions..

I have just ordered two connectors ( at £3.50 each I thought I could push the boat out...)
