| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Checking for leaks on Vision Inspiration Hi all, My Vision Inspiration was dusted off last night after 10 months out of the water (due some shallow dives this weekend). Head has recently returned from AP after a service and cells change. The unit failed both positive and negative tests after 15 mins. I've tried reseating and lubing o rings, undoing and reconnecting hoses, and the unit still fails. Squirts of soapy water around hose connectors and cylinder/1st stage conections doesn't show anything obvious. What is the panel's view of a logical approach to finding the leak? I've seen a previous post by Divermole describing connecting both ends of the mouthpiece hose to each counterlung in turn to check these, but this doesn't seem to work with the Vision as the connectors are different threads. Help! I may have to resort to holding bits underwater in the bath next.... Cheers, Dennis |

| Re: Checking for leaks on Vision Inspiration Why not put the entire thing in the tub. That will show the leak no mater how small Rob |

That's about 30 seconds if I'm in a hurry. Before putting it in the water I loosely attach a thing called a Nigel. This leaks like a sieve, insists that it stays at ambient and is unimpressed by the application of silicon grease. I know where the weak link in the loop is so improving the rest too far is hardly worth while.

| Re: Checking for leaks on Vision Inspiration A good place to look is on the pipe that goes into the bottom of the scrubber..I had a problem with my evolution not holding +/- tests and couldnt find the leak anywhere! It was traced to the o ring kinking where the hose screws onto the scrubber unit..They are very hard to notice unless you look closely( someone else had to tell me this ) |

| Re: Checking for leaks on Vision Inspiration Try checking where the solonoid screws into the head. Mine had a slow leak there and I hadn't thought about checking that with soapy water. I slight turn with a wrench fixed it. Greig |

| Re: Checking for leaks on Vision Inspiration This happened to me some time ago, check the diaphragm in the ADV if your unit has one. Mine had a small hole in it and would not hold either positive or negative pressure. I spent ages chasing my tail trying to find leaks on all of the joints. ![]() |

| Re: Checking for leaks on Vision Inspiration I usually attach a "tino". But I might try to use a Nigel instead next time if I suspect something's wrong.... :-) Ciao, Tino. <choke> <splutter> If mine holds long enough to show there isn't an obvious hole I'll dive it. | New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Checking for leaks on Vision Inspiration The thing that surprises me is that mine seems never to hold a neg. or pos .pressure for more than 15min. At first i was really afraid of diving the unit and was spending ages trying to find a leak....even cancelled a dive and went to buy a big tub to put the whole unit in but turned out as always useless. This is a fact that i have come to accept .... no matter how i try and since my dive buddy has spend lots of our diving time trying to figure out under water were is this damned leak with out ever finding one i have put my head at rest. Even tried a dive only for this reason and went down really over weighted to try the positive. Hope you find your leak or relax to the thought that it is all ok as long as you do keep do doing a bubble check on every dive. safe diving ![]()

Thanks. I went diving in Plymouth at the weekend and the unit behaved flawlessly. No leaks seen on bubble check. On opening the unit at the end of the day, there were a few teaspoons of water on the top of the scrubber, but none underneath. This leads me to suspect the solenoid fitting and I'm going to have a closer look at this during the week.safe diving ![]() Cheers, Dennis |
