duracell batteries..

I saw on the list that AP say that the Duracell batteries are the best and I was searching the web for the Duracell Ultra M3 Lithium CRP2's stated and found http://www.wattbatteries.co.uk/batteries/DURCRP2U.shtml

I checked the postage costs and its free to UK mainland if order over £20 so I duly ordered 6 at £3.49 each and they came a few days later.

I have been speaking to the AP about another matter and Tony did say that as far as he knew Duracell couldn't make them for that!

They are supplied in blister packs exactly as the pic on the link with a manufacture date of 2005 and 'sell by' of 2015.

For info - I will let you know what there like when I use them!

Re: duracell batteries..

Fantastic result. Let's hope they are genuine batteries.

Apparently there are big problems with counterfeit batteries generally so please test them as soon as you can and let us know how long they last.

I couldn't find any UK supplier of Duracell Ultra so well done for digging one out

I have just bought 12 Fujitsus from Batterymasters.co.uk - Home at £3.83 per battery (minimum order 12 batteries).

I did find Energizers at about £5 each but that was the best price I came across.

I complained about AP's battery prices and they very generously reduced it to £7.15 from £8.25! Very helpful, not.

Re: duracell batteries..

general tip:

the genuine battery should be in original sealed package with expiration date clearly marked on the side of the battery it'self. the expiration date is 10 years out from manufacturing, so do the math and you can figure out how long they've been on the shelf...a couple years should be OK. the bad batch I got came in little plastic baggies, not the original packaging, did not have expiration dates on the side and after calling Duracell with the batch numbers they turned out to be 5-6 years old already...I'm assuming that if they were genuine that they had been used, because they just did not have much of a charge. I let duracell know of my source as they were a bit concerned.

As i've written in other posts, these bad batteries caused a bogus cns and missed deco warning when I was testing them one by one in the vision(above water ), which went away by the time I checked again the next day. sent the whole batch back for a refun an repurchased from a local store that has an outlet on line but allows for instore pick up and inspection... at the same bargain price.

hope that helps,
g

I thought AP recommended the Fujitsu Lithium CRP2? Have they changed the recommendation?

Re: duracell batteries..

I ordered eight Duracell Ultra M3 batteries from Watt Batterries last week.
The batteries arrived in their blister packs, brand new - with exp date march 2015. Six of them were in a stockists carton. Watt Batteries appear to be a very good source for these items.

If you take a look at AP's video on batteries (on their web site), you'll see that the recommended brands for CRP2 batteries are:
  • Fujitsu
  • Energizer
  • Varta
  • Sanyo
  • Duracell
It also states: WARNING - Panasonic batteries are not suitable.

Re: duracell batteries..

Does anyone know if the duracells last any longer than the other batteries?

I do favor duracell batteries and have found them to last longer than most in my diving lights.

the Fujitsu's and Duracells seem to be quite comperable in terms of how long they last. Performance is more than just how long they "last" though and yet I have no solid numbers for comparison of each's ability to sustain constant voltage under heavy load (back light on, solenoid firing for long periods on ascent, etc.) I have seen a bogus cns warning get triggered by a low battery when the controller handed off to B2 (something I've decided to never rely on again, if I can avoid it)...that was with a Fijitsu, but I have never let that happen again so I don't have any experience with Duracells in that exact scenario to compare with. Best to avoid ever having a B2 hand off, IMHO, and if it happens be cautious of the timersl

I generally just trust duracells more because of independent studies i've seen of their other battery types compared to other brands (admitedly not apples to apples)...and i've found a good wholsesale source for them so i'm sticking with what is working for us. The threat of throwing off a deco or cns timer is just not worth it to me.

In any case, Providing a good source of juice seems to keep the "bugs" away, if I was away from home and ran out of duracells I'd go with one of the other brands and just know that if a missed deco or cns timer alarm popped up, i'd verify that with my own calculations before getting spooked.

A firm sustained press on the power button upon powering up (as apposed to a momentary press) also seems to be a factor in keeping the timing goblins away.
