Bean Diving Inspiration 4th Cell Holder
By Pierre Farrugia
This article is going to be about Bean Diving Inspiration 4th cell adapter, why I chose it, how to install it and comparison with Delta P 4th cell adapter.
What is the Bean Diving Inspiration 4th Cell Adapter
It's another after market product so that you can have a 4th, 5th cell, inline with the other 3 to monitor PPO2, How does it differ from other products? One can change or remove cells from the head without even using tools, just in minutes. The adapter is made from 2 parts, one that holds cells and battery and other part that installs to head and seals, also has cable glands for VR3's or HUD!
How Does it Compare to the Delta P
The main differences between the two are:
- Bean Diving takes two extra cells, Delta P takes one
- Bean Diving is smaller in size
- Bean Diving has all 4th cell and Inspiration cell very close so you can have closer readings
- Bean Diving has better cable routing
Delta P 4th Cell Installed
Bean Diving 4th Cell Installed How to Install Bean Diving 4th Cell - Before you start it's recommended you do a positive and negative test
- Remove cell holder from head
- Clean 4th cell holder and lubricate head O ring
- Remove both blanking plugs from Bean Diving cells holder
- Place O ring in head, fit Bean Diving 4th cell holder A and tighten its APD nut. Either by hand or cut APD box spanner. I used a flat head screw driver and pushed nut from its dented ring!
- Now you can install Vr3 cable by passing cable trough hole and tighten cable gland. I placed some Oxygen grease so O ring will not slip off! If using 1 cable remember to blank other hole!
- Now install battery box to Cell holder B, using a screw driver
- Install all cells and their Molex connectors
- Now just fit cell holder B in A and you are nearly ready
- Now fit all hoses back and do a proper negative and positive test. Calibrate Inspiration normally and VR3.
Changing Cells without Tools in Minutes
As many may know there are other 4th cell adapters around but the strong point about Bean Diving 4th cell is that you can remove the cells without using any tools in minutes, how? Just pull the cells holder down and all assembly well come out from the head!
Now just remove Molex connector and unscrew cells, screw new cell and push 4th cell assemble back into head, guess what ready!
Conclusion
Now I have been using it for a month without any problems from 10m to 80m. Calibration the Vr3 is now much simpler and reacts quicker to changes. Had a problem with a cell before a dive, just remove head pull 4th cell adapter and change cell, just a 5min job. As many know here in Malta our roads are very bumpy and so far never had problems with 4th cell dislodging itself, not even on bumpy RIB rides. I can say that I am very happy with it so far. In the future I intend to use other port for my DIY HUD but that's another article.
