Re: KISSing a Russian Chest...

Hi Guys and Gals,

This thread refers to a little article that I wrote and posted detailing a KISS style mod that I did to my Russian IDA-59 chest mounted Rebreather.

There's still more to come on this as additional mods are still in progress. Have yet to test dive it, but will soon.

Jay

Jay,
Nice Article, thank you very much.
Keep us posted on your progress, it looks very interesting. I do know a guy in Panama who loves diving the IDA-59.

Cheers,
RBN

Question Re: KISSing a Russian Chest...

I thought that IDA was a self-rescue breathing apparatus for submariners. It was designed for use within submarine and for a controlled ascent to the surface. I am not sure how smooth would it perform in prolonged horizontal underwater swimming.

Re: KISSing a Russian Chest...

There are many divers using it quite gladly as a diving rig, and reports are all favorable. Jay's implementation is good, and next week we'll find out for sure!

Re: KISSing a Russian Chest...

Speaking of which,,,
1)Does the 59 use the same scrubber as the 71?
2)The IDA-76 has a center to center distance of roughly 4" for the CL-scrubber connectors. Anybody have measurements for other russian scrubbers? Are all the connectors the same thread size?

Thinking about getting a bigger scrubber onto the 76

IDA-59/64/71 scrubbers are all the same part number. Same thread used on the scrubbers is used on the DSV and hoses as well.

AKA-60 scrubber uses the same threads, but uses (strangely) a smaller connector at the end of the breathing hoses (go figure).

IDA-72 is all by itself thread-size wise.

Since you are semi-local, grab your stuff and come down and play rebreathers with Jay and myself some afternoon.

Re: KISSing a Russian Chest...

Hi bythesea

I have the 76 and the 71

this week end (the 76 is in my w.e. home) i try to connect ida 71 scrubber to ida 76 an make photos...

but the 76 is so beautiful as is
i use it as is but with the ida 71 modified FFM ( i add a lower dump valve) and hose to make more visible gauge
if you use a 71 scrubber.......change also the oxygen tank ..

Giovanni
