Hi Corallaro,

How deep do you intend to use your unit? The RGU regulator stops flowing at around 30m. Also, the current setup leaves the O2 side too exposed for my liking. Not very robust for everyday diving.

Keeping 2 scrubbers but using an IP limited regulator kind of defeats the purpose. Also, your fittings for refilling the bottles are non-standard.

IMHO, Dave is correct in that you should either keep 2 scrubbers plus the O2 tank and add offboard DIL for deeper dives (>50m) or use a single scrubber with onboard 1.5-2L tanks.

Perhaps you could consider using a kiss or needle valve if you want to dive the rig deeper than 20-30m.

/GKAM
PS: I also just noticed your scubbers are installed the wrong way. They still work, but gunk will collect in a manner that is difficult to remove.

Yes, I missed this. The welded seams go to the bottom of the chassis.

Re: IDA-71 MOD and time

Hi Dave
Hi GKAM

this is a first prototype and i use what i have at the moment, the triple oxygen circuit display don't also have a case for example....

I think to install scubbers in the wrong way to have a minimal water trap
(aka 60 scrubber is intalled in the "wrong way") and i think to modify, for the future, scrubbers add an hose or a one way valve to descharge water

for o2 circuit my goal is an 1,5 liters o2 tank with a sealed fist stage and a kiss style injection...i wait orifices from mcmastercarr via a friend of my friend ecc ecc..or if i found a lot of money apeks ds4 and hydrogom valve

my final idea is two scrubbers and two 1.5 litres tank (diluent and oxygen) and external tank for deeper dives and good bailout and drysuit...

i want to go deep.....

Giovanni

PS
anyone can send a photo of modified t-piece clamp into counterlng?

in the hose from diluent bottle an quick connect i insert a multiple T piece with two out, one for wings and one for bailout second stage
Hi Corallaro-

If you set things up this way do not overlook the shuttle valve integral to the off board connector. Recall that in the original Russian configuration the on board O2 bottle had the output pressure of its 1st stage reg adjusted to 2 or 3 bar below the output pressure of the 1st stage of the offboard nitrox bottle. The shuttle valve will, as designed, select whichever source has the higher pressure to feed the ADV. In you case the most straightforward solution would be to turn on the dil bottle valve you want to feed the ADV and make sure the other one is turned off. You might otherwise be in for a rude surprise. You wing feeding T piece would need relocation.

I fully understand using what’s on hand to build stuff. If you’re going to be using the RGUFM reg on a regular basis for a while, this link might prove useful:

Re: IDA-71 MOD and time

Just a heads up with the Russian RBs. I got the valve off one of my IDA cylinders, and there was a lot of crap inside. Dirt, bits of metal from tapping and the bottom, inside of the threads has some burr on them. If one plans on using them or especially putting O2 you better take a look. Also W+S sells adapters for these valves and replacement din valves. The tube fittings have 1/4" bspp fittings, you can get adapters from McMaster Carr. I had to drill the male one out a little though.

Fireman,

Which fittings are you calling the tube fittings? Do you mean the outlet ports? Could you post a pic to clarify?

Thanks.

Re: IDA-71 MOD and time

Sure I'm talking about tapping into the plumbing on the aka-60, which is roughly 1/4" stainless tube with silver soldered compression ends, with 1/4 BSPP threads on them.

Take something like MC4936K119, 1/4x1/4 male bspp by female npt. I chucked it up and drilled out the center hole on the male side and screwed it into part of the rebreather plumbing. My fill station has QC with 1/4 npt fittings.

Pictures comming later.

Sorry, mate. We were talking about different things. Would still like to see pics though.

Cheers.
