| Re: Right am coming to join you lot I already have a cunning plan to turn our massive stack of old club ABLJ's into simple back mounted counterlungs. Part of the WozBreather project- a fully working mCCR unit for less than £500. Admittedly you do need access to a handy engineering workshop and a mate with an HF welding unit for welding up polyurethane. |

That reminds me-(Hijack mode on) I've been looking for references to home brew HF welding setups. Anyone have any productive links? (Hijack mode off) Best thing about this rig is that it LOOKS like just normal dive stuff w/ a few odd bits attached. Less chance for the rocket scientist at security to go into brain freeze mode! Would be fun to wear it on a cattle boat, pretending it is your BC. Put on regular OC tank/ reg. etc as well. Once under water, ditch the OC gear and continue to dive while the bubble blowers try and figure it all out. ![]() |

(Hijack mode off) I'd really doubt if this is practical. Rf welders are truely odd beasts. They require a fair bit of power, most often 3 phase. Mines 20 kw and it's by no means a big one. Installation and proper grounding can be issues. Get it wrong and either your feet get warm as you run the machine, or you are bouncing RF energy around the globe, skipping it off the atmosphere. That makes the FCC and FAA unhappy. Some films are heat sealable. Impulse sealers can be used. You are pretty much limited to straight lines, but with some creativity you can make workable shapes. That the path I'd look at for the DIY's Tobin

Cant help on the HF welder. We have a 30Kw double shuttle bridge press RF welder it weighs 450 kilo (1000lbs) And no neither you, or you Duncan can come anywhere near it. It’s just the RF radio frequency, very sensitive give off some funny waves so they tell me, can be a bit of a problem, you know if your planning on having children in the near future!! Lol |
