| cheapest rebreather that your wife would let you use the challenge is to build a rebreather that will not kill the user at a depth of 100 ft for scr and ccr designs for the least amount of money. o2 only rebreather designs are limited to 20 ft. retail prices for all parts apply. since we all have a closet full of parts, certain parts will not be counted for the total cost tanks regulators standard hoses spgs bc or wings and backplates with harness due to the fact that everyone in this challenge should stay alive use of a factory bov/dsv and hoses will only cost 100.00$ against the total. use of bovs are recommended. use of any item specifically designed for diving other then the listed will cost three times the retail value. IE dry suit valves. all materials used will be o2 compatible the one key rule for this challenge is that no mills or lathes are to be used. the only tools you can use to build the unit are to be found in the local hardware store. if there is a tie looks do count. anyone who wishes to be a judge in this contest pm me because i will be a contestant rick |

| Re: cheapest rebreather that your wife would let you use Well..... since I'm crippled by having a machine shop handy, and would not be able to make one using only a file, I guess I need to volunteer to judge! I'll even put up the prize: A huge box of Russian scrubbers and leavings from a number of my own projects. Not sure if that's a prize or an incentive to loose... Dave Sutton

| Re: cheapest rebreather that your wife would let you use I think this cheapo rebreather idea is a good one, but when we've done it we should publish our "cheapest usable" design on the Net so that divers who can't afford a commercial Rebreather (some Eastern Europeans for example) can easily make their own. Stick it in the Library with variants according to the diy skill of the constructor. Cheers, Charles. |

| Re: cheapest rebreather that your wife would let you use The K1 thread is an attempt at exactly that.... Whether it will kill the user or not remains to be seen - soon! ![]() (Right now Deep Blue and Northeast Scuba Supply both have "critical path" items on order coming here..... waiting on them to be able to get some final integration pieces done and start testing.... )
